My family stopped in Des Moines for a day while on vacation. We were not sure what to do with older, adult sons. We decided to go paddle boarding and kayaking on Gray's Lake. We had a great time! The lake is beautiful and you can see the downtown skyline. It makes you feel like you are in nature, but... More

Just stopped by. This lake has bike rentals, paddle boards, paddle boats, and a little more. It's along a bike/walking path. No bike equipment for small kids available to rent.

We got to Gray's Lake late in the day and didn't allow enough time to do it all, but wish we had. There are walking trails...lots of people had their dogs on leashes for walks. Several biking trails to enjoy with one across a long bridge over the lake (I am told that it lights up after dark). We tried... More

This is a great park, however in terms of privacy it's not too special because it's well known! So get there early and sit in a shady spot first and it's magical. However show up after it's been open for a while on a nice day and your unlikely to find parking or a decent picnic spot!

I love Gray's Lake Park near downtown Des Moines. The only reason I gave 4 stars instead of 5 is because it is so nice that it becomes extremely crowded in nice weather, and the crowds of families walking with kids and strollers and not paying attention to the fact that there are others around can be very frustrating. This... More

The paved walking trail is 2.2 miles, and is a manageable walk in 45 minutes. Always enjoy the scenic view and is a pleasant way to get some exercise.

Great path around the lake for a walk, good photo opportunities this time of year (spring/fall) as well. Many people take their dogs.

What a beautiful lake! Clean & tranquil. It has a nice walking trail. The bridge is colorfully lit at night. Beach area is also there to swim. Boat/Bicycle rentals are also available.

In a park that is larger than NYC's Central Park. Great to see walkers, runners, bicyclists of all ages round this lake. Free community yoga on Saturdays starts May 25 on the SE section of the lake. 9 am. Join us!

We really enjoyed our walk in Gray's Lake Park across the bridge, while waiting to catch a film at the Fleur a few blocks away. Loved looking at all of the memorial plaques, and watching the huge fish, trying to decide if they were some sort of giant carp.
