Description: Open to visitors since September 2009, the John and Mary Pappajohn...
Open to visitors since September 2009, the John and Mary Pappajohn Sculpture Park features artwork by 22 of the world's most celebrated artists. The 4.4 Acre park, located within a major crossroads of the urban grid, creates a pedestrian friendly entranceway to downtown Des Moines. This accessible setting, coupled with the skilled landscape design and caliber of the art, makes it unlike any other sculpture park in the United States. The Pappajohns' contribution of 28 works for the park is the most significant donation of artwork ever made to the Des Moines Art Center.

The Papa John family has spent a lot of money around central Iowa and this is a Des Moines Gem. Trying to pick a day when someone isn't taking senior, family, wedding or engagement pictures is nearly impossible. The artwork/statues are beutiful and some are just very odd. It is a must see.

This is a smaller sculpture park but is very nice. If you park over by the library, you can walk through all the sculpture work. Lots of fun photo opportunities available. Love the quality of the art within the park. For a smaller area this is worth a visit.

The sculpture park is cool, not much to it. Plan about 30-40 minutes. Some are definitely more interesting than others.

This is a great park in downtown Des Moines, with inexpensive metered parking surrounding it. The sculptures are varied, and a free brochure located in stands around the park gives you the background on the park and the sculptures. It is well worth a visit, and I want to go back at night to see the sculptures lit next time... More

The art park is one of my favorite places in Des Moines to go relax, walk around and enjoy all the interesting art pieces. The location as well as the park were designed perfectly to give you the feeling that you need to return.

This green space is filled with post-modern, mostly non-figurative sculpture. While most of the art is not compelling, there is something serene about this space. Moreover, it's flanked by many of the best restaurants in downtown, and parking is not too hard to get. Consider a visit and a stroll when you're looking for a new place to eat. Try... More

We went to Pappajohn sculture park but it was very dissapointing, with only a couple of decent sculptures to view the rest was rubbish. The steel horses and the alphabet body are the main attraction the rest are a waste of time,it was free and ok to walk around but go out of your way to visit.

Nice stop for a leisurely walk around the park. Neat sculptures right in the heart of downtown. You can get info on the pieces by calling a phone #.

A very unique park in the city. We visited the park on a weekday morning and parking was easy to find. Our family loved the leisurely walk around the park looking at the sculptures. There was a couple of food trucks and restaurants nearby if you were looking for a bite to eat.
