Description: Open to visitors since September 2009, the John and Mary Pappajohn...
Open to visitors since September 2009, the John and Mary Pappajohn Sculpture Park features artwork by 22 of the world's most celebrated artists. The 4.4 Acre park, located within a major crossroads of the urban grid, creates a pedestrian friendly entranceway to downtown Des Moines. This accessible setting, coupled with the skilled landscape design and caliber of the art, makes it unlike any other sculpture park in the United States. The Pappajohns' contribution of 28 works for the park is the most significant donation of artwork ever made to the Des Moines Art Center.

Great Park

Beautiful and very clean. My shoes (Toms) got a little bit wet though, coz it had rained the night before. Nice sculptures.

Very creative pieces. Well worth the effort to tour the outside exhibit and best of all it is free to everyone.

The artwork is funky and fun. A lovely thing to do before or after a lunch or dinner downtown. It is wheelchair accessible, sidewalks all around. Street parking us usually ample but you will have to feed the parking meters. If touring on foot in Des Moines, park on one of the bridges. Less expensive!

Always a fun area to stroll through. Plenty of photo opportunities. Interesting to see the new pieces that are added.

If you have kids, this is a fun little park to walk around on a nice day. Lots of stopping points. Parking might be a problem on the weekdays.

The garden itself is well laid out and there is information at the entrance. I had a lot of difficulty getting the audio tour to work properly and we couldn't visit one sculpture because of standing water. It could be maintained better and the audio tour could be better. Overall it's a neat 30 minute stroll.

First there is the Pappajohn Sculpture Park where you can stroll among large art objects and enjoy the beauty of the day. This "Park" is right beside the public library and if you look... More

This is a great place to go when the weather is great and your looking for something free to do. It's located in the heart of downtown Des Moines and there's a lot of parking (on the weekends). Your surrounded by the library, capital, and some amazing restaurants.

We took our foreign exchange student here, it is a great place for photographs. Pick a sunny day and take your time walking through the exhibits.
