Description:

Open to visitors since September 2009, the John and Mary Pappajohn...

Open to visitors since September 2009, the John and Mary Pappajohn Sculpture Park features artwork by 22 of the world's most celebrated artists.

The 4.4 Acre park, located within a major crossroads of the urban grid, creates a pedestrian friendly entranceway to downtown Des Moines. This accessible setting, coupled with the skilled landscape design and caliber of the art, makes it unlike any other sculpture park in the United States. The Pappajohns' contribution of 28 works for the park is the most significant donation of artwork ever made to the Des Moines Art Center.

The multi-block area has many large and wonderful sculptures. Many of which kids can climb. It's a good place for families or individuals to kill time or to become educated concerning art. It's outside vast, clean and there are a lot of eateries within a stone's throw.

Some of the pieces are genuinely good, like the letter man. But some pieces are just plain garbage. Anything can be art anymore, but that doesn't mean that it is or should be. Good place to stroll on a summer day though.

The Sculpture Park is a great place to walk around with friends or on a date. I live in Des Moines and I come here very often because I always find something new that I like about it. It is not super big (it takes up about a block of space), but the art is great and engaging.

Literally and figuratively the art in Western Gateway Park is accessible. You can touch and interact with the art and the art is discernible. We enjoyed the sculptures and the setting. we were there in june so also enjoyed the Des Moines Art Fair.

It's a very nice sculpture park. It makes for an enjoyable evening stroll. It is a well maintained park and a draw to that area. It looked to me like the area is being re-vitalized. A number of people were there enjoying the park.

What a beautiful, unique entrance into the city of Des Moines. Gorgeous winter, spring, summer or fall and provides a magnificent backdrop for food and music events throughout the year.

I always drive by there and never stop. Today, I stopped and slowly walk by things that have been built. It's beautiful art work. I understand puts art work at his home. That's neat. I think everyone in Des Moines or comes to our city, should go visit the art work there.

Interesting sculptures scattered around this urban art park. A little chilly in winter-best visited in the summer when the grass is green. The Des Moines Art Festival is held in this area later in the summer-a wonderful outing!

I have been all over North America and have not really seen a park as unique as this one. Set along to blocks it has hosted art festivals in the summer time. All the art is very large and some you can actually stand inside. It worth a trip to this location if your in the Des Moines area.
