Open to visitors since September 2009, the John and Mary Pappajohn Sculpture Park features artwork by 22 of the world's most celebrated artists. The 4.4 Acre park, located within a major crossroads of the urban grid, creates a pedestrian friendly entranceway to downtown Des Moines. This accessible setting, coupled with the skilled landscape design and caliber of the art, makes it unlike any other sculpture park in the United States. The Pappajohns' contribution of 28 works for the park is the most significant donation of artwork ever made to the Des Moines Art Center.

If you are unsure what to do on a beautiful night and want to get out of the house; try the sculpture garden. It's free, you get to walk around, you can talk to each other, and it is great for conversation starters.

This open air park covering two blocks in the center of the city is an inviting and playful place to visit. Large modern sculptures invite interaction from its viewers. It is very child friendly (rolling in green grass down a small hill has never been so much fun). All viewers enjoy entering the giant man's head constructed with letters of... More

Different. It is good to expose teenagers to different types of art. Tried to go Saturday evening but couldn't find parking. They enjoyed some & wondered why others were even considered art.

Wide open space in the heart of downtown filled with modern art. The space is easily accessible. My children loved it. I noted that the community uses it as a gathering and interaction space. I saw a yoga class and a book club in progress while there.

Walked around this park. It's between two busy streets and has plenty of unique art. I thought it was okay - should get more exposure as the food trucks park around it nowadays.

What a beautiful park! Check out the sculptures--a nice variety of styles with something for every taste. No pizza sculptures! :)

What a treat. Outdoor sculpture right in the center of town. Lots to look at. Have been collecting Claes Oldenburg visits for nearly 40 years and was delighted to see his trowel planted in the grass. Entire sculpture garden is 3 or 4 blocks. Don't miss it.

This little park has a huge piece of art inside. Sculptures are awesome, very nicely composed with the city. Great place for a walk.
