not only is this a lovely place for art but it's great for a walk or to just relax and enjoy some calm in the busy city. there is a subway across the street from here so you can grab a pinic and sit on the lawn with the family

It's a cool place and cool area quite near downtown. For Iowa it's actually quite a nice art park. However it is small and after about 25 mins you've done it all. So bring a picnic and choose a great warm day and it will be special!

It's just a short walk from the downtown core, and well worth a visit. The pieces are interesting and engaging, and there's a definitely a nice sense of humor at play.

If you are in Des Moines for more than a day, this is worth a visit. For me, it's best treated as a kinetic work of art as it's not simply about the pieces in the park but the changing views as you walk (or bike) through against the background of the skyline to the east. The park is a... More

Okay, an employee at the state history museum suggested we visit this place. It's located downtown, which means metered parking and traffic - except on weekends. Traffic was nonexistent on Sunday morning, so we decided to stop. The park is free and well cared for but the we thought the sculptures were strange.

I have been fortunate enough to see the Pappajohn Sculpture Park develop over time and with new each addition it truly is a jewel in the center of Des Moines. And best of all it's free!! I recommend to anyone that is out of town and has spent the day cooped up in a hotel or meetings. There is tons... More

Who can argue with something cool to do for free? It's cool for a nice day - multiple times though and it can get old. They do seem to be adding more art which helps with the re-visit!

My husband and I have brought many of our guests to visit the sculpture park including his parents and my parents. We also like to grab a cup of coffee from the local coffee shop, Smokey Row, and walk around the park when the weather is nice. The sculptures are very diverse, the terrain is well maintained and interesting with... More
