Description: Open to visitors since September 2009, the John and Mary Pappajohn...
Open to visitors since September 2009, the John and Mary Pappajohn Sculpture Park features artwork by 22 of the world's most celebrated artists. The 4.4 Acre park, located within a major crossroads of the urban grid, creates a pedestrian friendly entranceway to downtown Des Moines. This accessible setting, coupled with the skilled landscape design and caliber of the art, makes it unlike any other sculpture park in the United States. The Pappajohns' contribution of 28 works for the park is the most significant donation of artwork ever made to the Des Moines Art Center.

This little park has a huge piece of art inside. Sculptures are awesome, very nicely composed with the city. Great place for a walk.

This downtown area is wonderful. The pieces on display as wonderful and different. I understand that they change. Can't wait to visit again - wish I had my camera.

Drive by, but better to walk around all the interesting sculptures in this fantastic collection of art on the western edge of downtown Des Moines.

Wow, the many different pieces at this sculpture park! I went in December the last time, which made it harder to get around, thanks to the weather. I have been to this sculpture garden many times before and have always enjoyed it. Good place to take a picnic for the kids or visit Ritual Cafe.

This isn't really an attraction so much as an area you might go for a walk or to relax if you are walking about downtown Des Moines. It's an alright place, but don't expect anything breath-taking. Getting There: Parking is fairly easy to come by in this area, even just on the street. Des Moines' downtown area is fairly walk-able... More

Since I am obsessed with my Fitbit and meeting my daily goal for steps this park was on my list. I visited on a gorgeous spring day and walked from downtown. It's a really nice free attraction that would be a great place to let kids run around and burn off some energy while you expose them to art. It's... More

this is a really nice park area in Des Moines,Iowa and we had some nice pictures, we walked around and some of the art work was lit up and so others helped take our picture. It is downtown, but near some restaurants. It is a nice place to relax and walk and look at the very nice artwork.

Gorgeous spring day & we had to get out of the house. I thought the sculpture park would be a great place to check out. When we got out of the van I was asked where the park was:) The kids didn't understand the sculpture park concept, they wanted a "real park". We ended up having a blast. The kids... More

Thanks so much for sharing! We always love to learn about our visitors' favorite sculptures, and what kids think they look like. Hearing about Keith Harring's "ninjas" definitely made us smile. We hope you visit again soon! More

The park is easily found, clean and inviting. Great place for family activity or just a walk. The sculptures are interesting and mostly, big! Weather pending, good place for picnic. It can be visited in under 30mins if you're in a rush or enjoyed for couple hours. Parking is on the streets around, with meters.
