talk to the legislators

We were there to lobby our legislators. Also toured the exhibits on the second floor and also the library. Very impressive to tour the capitol.

Whether the legislature is in session or not, you have to visit the Capitol. Native or visitor, you're always welcome. Amazing artifacts, tricky tile work, big ship, and the paintings - especially the detail work on upper walls and ceilings, fills your senses. But the creme de la creme, is the most beautiful law library in the world. Not exaggerating,... More

A quick pass through the most courteous security checkpoint I've ever seen is the only price you'll pay to tour this amazing building. Visitors are free to roam or join free tours. I roamed for a while and then tagged on to a passing tour to get access to the dome. The guide was very interesting and helpful and did... More

If you live in Iowa or visiting it's a must that you check out the capital. It's not only amazing from the outside but you for sure should check out the inside. The one area you need to see especially is the library but you have to go on the tour to see that though.

We love to visit state capitol buildings, so a stop into the Iowa state capitol in Des Moines was a must. What a lovely building, both inside and out. The architecture is certainly unique among state capitol buildings with it's four spires, and the lovely rotunda is amazing both inside and out. Beautiful artwork throughout the building. Be sure to... More

Incredible architecture. The capital is beautiful. We did the self tour. Staff at visitor area very helpful. Congress was in session and you can sit and observe. Made my husband's day as he got to sit in the Govenor's chair (the Govenor wasn't there) but visitors can go into his office.

We took the 8th generation of our family to the Iowa State Capital building. Architecturally stunning, historically one of the best samples of Iowa history, and just for fun can't be matched. The entire grounds, the statues, the memorials, the building itself, the view from the dome(s) all makes this a must see and do for past and future generations.
