The building of the Capitol is magnificent! It is good preserved, beautiful place, which is actually still used, but looks like a museum. Very important place to visit, especially when you are into politics or history.

Best state capital complex in the Midwest. The renovation in the last several will preserve a wonderful structure for another 100 years. The senate and house chambers are wonderful. Too many steps to enter.

We truly enjoyed our tour of the capital, which was provided by an intern from Senator Grassley's office.Having a guide made the tour so much more interesting loaded with facts and anecdotes. All that you need to do is contact your state senators office prior to your visit and let them know you will be in DC and would like... More

We ended up being 10 minutes too late to get a guided tour. Boo. I would definitely go back when we're in the area again for a guided tour. It's the only way to get into the dome of the building! We arrived in the building at 4:10pm. All offices and the library close at 4:30 so we had to... More

We went to the Capital for the Epilepsy Awareness Day towards the end of march. If you can, make plans to meet with your senator and representative as you may be able to get a very nice tour of the Capital, as we did by Brad Zaun(he showed us nearly the whole building, thanks Brad!). This was very much a... More

The kids were overwhelmed by the beauty of the building and the hustle and bustle all around. They did not complain of boredom and loved the tour. Be aware that to go up into the dome you have to be at least 6 years old.

We took a guided tour and the guide was excellent. I'm not sure that we would have enjoyed the visit so much if we had not taken the tour.

You walked into a building that is four floors high. You can sit in on the chamber but they were out to lunch while we were there. They have a cafeteria you can eat at. I like the surroundings on the outside. Go across the street to the Justice building and get more history information

We had to stop to eat outside this building but decided to check the capitol first before eating. I'm so glad we did! Even if we only had a tour for about 1 1/2 hours, it was worth the while!

I was rushing through, and it was raining, so I took a few photos of the outside of the building (which is simply stunning), and a few of the statues, but I didn't go inside. I SO regret it, especially after doing a little research and looking at photos of the inside. DON'T make the same mistake - go inside... More
