We spent a lovely morning on Credit Island, enjoying the sights and sounds of the local birds. This is a park on the banks of the Mississippi River, which also encloses some smaller quieter inflows and even some swampy areas. Therefore, with this varied habitat, one can find birds of all kinds: Mallard ducks, cormorants, Great blue herons, hairy woodpeckers,... More

Credit Island used to be a nice park with a great beginners golf course. That is all in the past. The park is completely submerged every spring due to the Mississippi River flooding. Now it is a decent place to enjoy a wooded surrounding, but not much else.

I grew up in this area, and this park used to be a family favorite. Now with low funding, the city has pretty much given up on it. There are swings for kids, a frisbee golf course, fishing and other activities, but things have gotten run down. If you want to have a family picnic June to October, it is... More

We always enjoy a drive around the island. There is always something to see and during the cold winter months it's fun to look for Eagles roosted in the trees along the drive. This can be a prime location for Eagle watching so bring your camera or binoculars. Another great viewing area is the open water by Lock and Dam... More

Around Christmas, the park attracts bald eagles from all over the area and you can watch them feed off of fish they catch in the Mississippi. There is ample parking around the island and many places where you can picnic.

Credit Island is a wonderful eagle watching spot in the winter. Please get out of your car in order to hear the haunting call of the eagle, it's almost a cackle-nothing like the screeching hawk sound. I've read the other reviews about the park not being the safest. My advice is to be cautious, however, this park is too nice... More

We enjoyed the native plants, surrounded by the Mississippi River, walking on the Credit Island Bridge, and seeing a large flock of white pelicans and herons, the large sculpture of "Sunday Afternoon on the Island of La Grande Jatte," and especially the informative markers that told about the island's history, the mammals and waterfowl.

Wanted to walk at this beautifully located park alongside the Missippi, but after a few hundred feet the mozzies attacked! Without insect repellant had no choice but to drive around and then away! Don't forget the repellant!

In the winter months, Credit Island is known for eagle viewing. In spring...and right now and all through April...the American White Pelican migrates here on its way north. There are literally hundreds in the wetland spillovers from the Mississippi that are on the island. These huge white birds with knobs on their beaks and feather-tufted heads are beautiful to see....
