The collection is particularly strong in American art, especially from the first half of the 20th century. There are a number of artists the Museum holds in great depth—including the world's largest collection of works of art by Grant Wood. The Museum also possesses a strong collection of Roman portrait busts donated by Tom and Nan Riley, and an extensive print collection from the 15th century forward primarily donated by Peter O. Stamats. The Museum also features temporary exhibitions. For a current listing, please see our website. « less

I drove with my girlfriend from Springfield Illinois to see the wonder exhibits at the Cedar Rabids Museum of Art and we were not disappointed! The building was beautifully kept, clean and well laid out. The staff could not have been more friendly and helpful, and the museum store was simply wonderful! One of coolest things that me and my... The building is beautiful! I love the use of the ornate Carnegie library for part of the building and the lush atrium between the new and old sections. There is always a wide variety of exibits; paintings, photographs, prints, ceramics, Roman art, etc, that keep changing. I especially love the Grant Wood (painter of American Gothic) section. It is great... More

Four of us came on a Sunday afternoon and thoroughly enjoyed the 90 minutes we stayed. We came especially to see the Grant Wood collection but also found a wonderful Dan Eldon photography display as well as a nice variety of Lasansky. Many of the pieces displayed had connections with Cedar Rapids which we enjoyed. The building itself is beautiful... More

We visited the museum after going to the Farmer's Market on Saturday. It is a beautiful, historic building. The artwork is very diverse. They always have the large Grant Wood section. Most of the rest rotates. We will visit again!

Love that they re-purposed the old library building, keeping its charm intact and added on the modern "wing" for the museum. We enjoyed the Grant Wood and Marvin Cone works. Thanks for including the Norman Rockwell pieces(we still love his work even though some art snobs don't consider him to be a "true artist"). Ancient art collection was nice, too.... More

Liked how removal of ramp in front let you see the beautiful front exterior again. Enjoyed the Grant Wood and Egyptian exhibits.

It happened the museum was free when we were in town. The museum is a wonderful little museum and we thoroughly enjoyed the Grant Wood showing.

Rude staff. Hours are AWFUL, good luck getting in. Art is just ...ehhh. I would just skip this place all together. Not kind to out-of-towners.

Unfortunately, we visited between exhibitions so the museum seemed very empty. We thought the museum building was quite nice and the interior atrium positively "prehistoric" - those plants were huge! The museum gift shop is definitely worth a stop. We parked at a nearby metered space. It was a reciprocal museum, so our visit was free.

We have been to the Museum of Art many times and always enjoy the exhibits. The museum was created around an old Carneige Library and is well worth the visit. Also in the general area is the History Museum, the new library and the Grant Wood Studio.
