Owner description: The Cedar Rapids Museum of Art houses more than 7,200 works of art spanning many eras—from Roman antiquity to the present. The collection is particularly strong in American art, especially from the first half of the 20th century. There are a number of artists the Museum holds in great depth—including the world's largest collection of works of art by Grant Wood. The Museum also possesses a strong collection of Roman portrait busts donated by Tom and Nan Riley, and an extensive print collection from the 15th century forward primarily donated by Peter O. Stamats. The Museum also features temporary exhibitions. For a current listing, please see our website.

This museum seems to have permanent exhibits only of artists from Iowa, a printmaker, a photographer and Grant Wood. The Grant Wood collection is advertised as the largest in the world, but it consists of about a dozen paintings, plus a wrought iron fireplace screen and a lovely silver pitcher. The paintings did give you a good look at the... More

The Cedar Rapids Museum of Art is a real treat for visitors to this city. It is well administered, hosts interesting and informative programs and shows, and contains many fascinating surprises. I try to attend events as often as possible. Of special interest to many is their outstanding works of both Grant Wood and Marvin Cone, both local artists with... More

My friends & I visited the Cedar Rapids Museum of Art as part of a "Grant Wood" daytrip we were on. While the Grant Wood collection includes paintings he is known for, there were also several interesting examples of his commissioned commercial works such as a wrought iron fireplace screen and a corn-cob inspired chandelier. We also enjoyed the exhibit of... More

I drove with my girlfriend from Springfield Illinois to see the wonder exhibits at the Cedar Rabids Museum of Art and we were not disappointed! The building was beautifully kept, clean and well laid out. The staff could not have been more friendly and helpful, and the museum store was simply wonderful! One of coolest things that me and my... The building is beautiful! I love the use of the ornate Carnegie library for part of the building and the lush atrium between the new and old sections. There is always a wide variety of exibits; paintings, photographs, prints, ceramics, Roman art, etc, that keep changing. I especially love the Grant Wood (painter of American Gothic) section. It is great... More

Four of us came on a Sunday afternoon and thoroughly enjoyed the 90 minutes we stayed. We came especially to see the Grant Wood collection but also found a wonderful Dan Eldon photography display as well as a nice variety of Lasansky. Many of the pieces displayed had connections with Cedar Rapids which we enjoyed. The building itself is beautiful... More

We visited the museum after going to the Farmer's Market on Saturday. It is a beautiful, historic building. The artwork is very diverse. They always have the large Grant Wood section. Most of the rest rotates. We will visit again!

Love that they re-purposed the old library building, keeping its charm intact and added on the modern "wing" for the museum. We enjoyed the Grant Wood and Marvin Cone works. Thanks for including the Norman Rockwell pieces(we still love his work even though some art snobs don't consider him to be a "true artist"). Ancient art collection was nice, too.... More
