The collection is particularly strong in American art, especially from the first half of the 20th century. There are a number of artists the Museum holds in great depth—including the world's largest collection of works of art by Grant Wood. The Museum also possesses a strong collection of Roman portrait busts donated by Tom and Nan Riley, and an extensive print collection from the 15th century forward primarily donated by Peter O. Stamats. The Museum also features temporary exhibitions. For a current listing, please see our website. « less

Unfortunately, we visited between exhibitions so the museum seemed very empty. We thought the museum building was quite nice and the interior atrium positively "prehistoric" - those plants were huge! The museum gift shop is definitely worth a stop. We parked at a nearby metered space. It was a reciprocal museum, so our visit was free.

We have been to the Museum of Art many times and always enjoy the exhibits. The museum was created around an old Carneige Library and is well worth the visit. Also in the general area is the History Museum, the new library and the Grant Wood Studio.

This is an excellent art museum for a modest-sized city like Cedar Rapids. The museum is conveniently situated downtown next to Greene Square Park and a short walk from the spanking new Cedar Rapids public library, a real gem. Art exhibits in the 8 or so galleries are changed frequently in addition to a permanent gallery of Roman Art that's... More

I enjoyed wandering the rooms, seeing new places and ideas through the works of the featured artists.

The museum is beautifully laid out and it is good to see so many of Grant Wood's paintings under one roof. A visit to Grant Wood's studio just 4 blocks up the road is also worth a visit.

The museum is definitely worth a visit. But I'm here to tell you about the unexpected sidecar to the museum, a one-of-a-kind attraction: Grant Wood's home and studio. It's not just his home and studio, it's the one he built with his own hands and decorated with his own art. Grant Wood was not just an accomplished artist on canvas,... More

Although the museum has marvelous Grant Wood and Marvin Cone collections, the other permanent art as well as the visiting exhibitions are interesting as well. I'm fond of the building itself - the old-fashioned Carnegie Library with a modern addition.Grant Wood's loft studio is just down the street from the museum and is open to the public. It's where he... More

We took advantage of the free summer admission to the museum, but even the regular admission price of $5 is an amazing deal for all the works of art you get to see. From Grant Wood to ancient Roman busts and now a special exhibition of children's literature illustrations, we enjoyed each exhibit in the museum.

If you are interested in regional art, don't miss the CRMA! The collection of paintings by Grant Wood (think "American Gothic" -- the second most parodied painting in the world, after the Mona Lisa) and Marvin Cone, Wood's contemporary and compatriot, is perhaps the best in the world. So much can be learned about the regionalist movement by viewing the... More
