Description: The Cedar Rapids Museum of Art houses more than 7,200 works of art...
The Cedar Rapids Museum of Art houses more than 7,200 works of art spanning many eras—from Roman antiquity to the present. The collection is particularly strong in American art, especially from the first half of the 20th century. There are a number of artists the Museum holds in great depth—including the world's largest collection of works of art by Grant Wood. The Museum also possesses a strong collection of Roman portrait busts donated by Tom and Nan Riley, and an extensive print collection from the 15th century forward primarily donated by Peter O. Stamats. The Museum also features temporary exhibitions. For a current listing, please see our website.

Worth A Stop When In Town

It does cost to get in but really worth the price. I love the variety of art works they have here. Lots of different things going on here to see. Very Nice Place!

My daughter (Coe college student) shared this terrific museum with my son and I on a recent visit. My son has his BFA and is quite a critic of art museums, and we all loved the exhibits at the Cedar Rapids Museum of Art. The Mogadishu photography exhibit was poignant and striking, and the alphabetized illustrations were great fun and... More

While it is a small regional museum, the Cedar Rapids Museum of Art has an impressive collection of the works of Grant Wood that show his flirtations with different styles and techniques (and his nearby home studio), Mauricio Lasansky's large and haunting prints, a small but nice collection of Roman busts, and during my visit, a beautiful exhibit from the... The Museum offers FREE admission to all visitors from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Thursday evenings. So, if you don't have any plans on a Thursday evening, pop on over to the museum and check out some world-class... More

what an uplifting way to spend a winter day in Iowa. The foyer greats you with bright red and purple design that I find so striking even on my second visit here. Very friendly staff and I now enrolled in online notification of exhibits and events which I'm so looking forward to in my new retirement situation. Its a small... More

The Musuem is beautiful. We love the work done out front. The exhibits were interesting. We expected a knowledgeable person to be manning the exhibits, to answer questions. No one was there. A shout out to a very nice lady manning the Musuem store. She was very friendly and helpful!

This museum seems to have permanent exhibits only of artists from Iowa, a printmaker, a photographer and Grant Wood. The Grant Wood collection is advertised as the largest in the world, but it consists of about a dozen paintings, plus a wrought iron fireplace screen and a lovely silver pitcher. The paintings did give you a good look at the... More

I hope you get a chance the next time you visit. I'm glad to hear you enjoyed our Grant Wood gallery. We do have the world's largest collection... More

My friends & I visited the Cedar Rapids Museum of Art as part of a "Grant Wood" daytrip we were on. While the Grant Wood collection includes paintings he is known for, there were also several interesting examples of his commissioned commercial works such as a wrought iron fireplace screen and a corn-cob inspired chandelier. We also enjoyed the exhibit of... More
