Madison, IN, is, itself, an interesting and lovely place to visit, and no visit there would be complete without touring the Lanier Mansion. This was the home of James Lanier, a very interesting and important person to Indiana's history. The mansion is beautiful, and our guide was very knowledgeable about Lanier and his home. We love visiting new places, and... More

The whole area around the mansion contains iconic 19th century homes. The mansion is an unexpected home in this old river town.

Lovely grounds on Ohio. The huge old home has fascinating antiques in its many rooms. I especially like the children's room and toys.

Lovely antebellum mansion that is a must see for any visitor to Historic Madison. The guides know the history of the home and enjoy sharing their knowledge of the family and the time period. Many locals have photos made at the mansion. Traditional stop for prom pics. Gorgeous wedding site!

This 2-story antebellum mansion sits on Ohio River. As State Museum, it is well maintained and furnished.

I took a tour of Lanier Mansion right after Thanksgiving, and it was so charming with the old fashioned Christmas tree decorated in the "family" room just as it would have been back in the day. The entrance is magnificent with the spiral staircase in the center. Lovely Greek Revival architecture and furnishings throughout. The main rooms were beautifully decorated.... More

This is one the most architecturally significant homes in Indiana. The Costigan staircase is worth the admission. Unsupported spiral staircase......Holy Cow!!!
