Good to visit

This is a really nice place to go see. We live here and still like going to see it from time to time. Always cool to hear the history and see everything they had back then.

Spent the weekend in Madison and wanted to take a historical tour as we love the period of many of the homes there. Being November, one of the only spots still touring was the Lanier mansion. Mike the tour guide is friendly and knowledgeable about the property and you can tell he enjoys his job. There were only four of... More

I love older buildings and being able to picture them in their heyday! This home is amazing and the staircase the best feature although I couldn't look up or down the middle of it with height issues that come with my old age lol. It's worth a one time visit for sure when in Madison!

We are very glad that this grand facility has been maintained for the generations to follow. The tour guide was entertaining and knowledgeable. It might be a tad bit expensive for a family since they charge $4 for kids. Come on man, they're kids.

The tour guide is really nice and friendly. He showed us around the building and told the history. It is a place worth to visit in Madison.

An amazing home and an amazing man. Bailed out the state of Indiana on more than one occasion, according to the tour guide. If you're a history buff it's worth the price of admission!

My wife and I are not what you would consider the museum type, but let me tell you! Once we started our tour we were totally into this house. The true guide was great and made us feel like we were back in time and was well trained. We had a great time and tell friends about it each time... More

Designed by Francis Costigan, a widely-noted Madison architect, this beautiful pre-Civil War home of banker J.F.D. Lanier is a property of the Indiana State Museum. It has been painstakingly restored to its original appearance, using materials and techniques consistent with 19th century construction methods. The extensive formal gardens on the south side of the house, sloping down toward the broad... More
