Every Thursday night in the May thru Aug summer nights the "Indiana historical Museum" hosts free outdoor concerts on the Indy canal. The canal is only about 10 blocks long now, a tiny fraction of the many miles of "barge way " that supplied Indianapolis with goods in the far past . These concerts range from classical to rock to... We found this by accident walking around one night downtown. The art on the walls were really cool, and the area seemed generally peaceful and taken care of. It is worth a look if you are out and about walking around.

We were so happy to have ended up with a hotel basically across the street from so many wonderful attractions (Marriott SpringHill Suites Downtown), and the Central Canal area was a highlight. We walked/ran there 2 of the 3 mornings of our visit, even when it was 42 degrees with wind that felt like 32! We were a little too... More

The central canal is a great place to walk or run. It's a nice 2 mile stretch, and connects with the cultural trail for an even longer walk. There are paddle boats and gondola rides in the summer time. There is a restaurant at the end of the canal and a coffee shop along the way. It's pleasant, typically complete... More

Our friend's room was on the side of the Canal. She was delighted by the sight of ducks and swans swimming along the Canal. She thought that it was a very interesting plus for her room.

I really enjoyed my three mile walk several mornings along the canal. I enjoyed seeing the ducks and geese on the canal, the art installations at various locations, and the variety of plantings around the apartments and condos located adjacent to the canal.

This canal walk is lovely. Lots of joggers and walkers in the morning and at night. It is a great jogging loop, around 3 miles. Flat and pleasant.

The central canal is a hidden gem. Most may miss it's beauty, the paddleboats and eats are wonderful. Nice to stroll day of night.

I love the canal. This is a great place to walk, gawk and chill. I use it primarily as a place to work out at during my lunch hour. It is a 3 mile length and can easily put in the sweat in 45 minutes. The only drawback is the parking if you don't know where to park. Other than... More
