I had only discovered this lovely walk a few years ago. We have lived in the state of Indiana for 25 years and never knew this existed. What a wonderful little walk we had along the canal, watching the boats, sitting and having a drink. If you just need a couple minutes to refresh this is a great place to... More

A nice place to walk. You can walk to the IMAX theater, historical society, zoo, Eiteljorg, sports museum, state library. These are all close to the canal or you just walk up the stairs and you are there. At one point you are not far from the State Capitol . You can rent paddle boats. There are a few restaurants... I took the kids on a bike made for many and we rode around the canal. It was Beautiful and fun. Worth seeing by boat or land.

This was a fun diversion in downtown Indianapolis. Definitely worth a visit if crossing town or to just have a quiet walk. Added bonus of the memorial for the USS Indianapolis at one end.

A very refreshing view of Indianapolis! Right smack in the heart of downtown Indianapolis, the Central Canal is a thing of beauty as it twists and glides through memorable sites. The USS Indianapolis Memorial, The Eiteljorg American Indian Museum. The terrific Indiana State Museum, the NCAA Headquarters, the famous Indianapolis Fire Department Firehouse 13 all can be viewed by walking.... More

Typical of this sort of thing. Unlike some others I have walked it seems that this one does not have as much in the way of dining. It is a nice diversion though, relatively scenic, and quiet.

Of all the times that I have traveled to Indy I can't believe we have never ventured on the canal! What a neat thing! Its peaceful and nice looking. You could just go for a nice walk along the trail or right on the canal, or rent a pedal boat and float right down the canal or even get one... More

The canal area is a really neat area in downtown Indy. Great for running or just taking a stroll you have quick access to some hotels, the NCAA hall of fame and other attractions. You can rent pedal boats for a fee.
