This is a nice canal in the spring and summer. The canal has a couple of restaurants along with boat rentals and it leads to the concert venue, Indianapolis Zoo, Indiana State Museum, and the NCAA museum.

Start at the corner of West Street and Ohio; the Capitol, a gorgeously restored 1880s limestone building, is two blocks away (and you'll cross the canal). Return the way you came and decend to the canal when you get to the bridge. Right at the bridge, you will find the History Center/Indiana Historical Society, with an iconic collection of Lincoln... This is a great place to view the skyline of Indy without being worried about car traffic. Paddle boat rentals and gondola rides make this a fun place to visit. I wouldn't recommend coming at night as there has been some rival gang shootings last summer. It is still kept graffiti free though.

Most that visit Indianapolis miss this fun place. Oddly few restaurants but boating, biking 2-4wheel, and a wonderful pathway to many other attractions. A must see for the walking traveler (weather permitting).

The canal is a nice place for walking right in the middle of downtown Indy. The views are great, there is just not much else to do. Nice quiet place to go to escape the hustle and bustle of the busy city.

The canal offers a really nice wide pedestrian path for walkers and runners. Snow removal is down during the winter so footing is always good. You may need to hold your breath as you go past the government center due to the smokers, but you can avoid that area all together if you know where the stairs and bridges are.

A very nice scenic walk. Walk past the Indiana State Museum and other Indy museums, a few restaurants and shops, and watch the gondolas and paddleboats.

Growing up in San Antonio, Texas, with the Riverwalk, I guess I expected a river with some nice cafes, restaurants, bars, etc along the way. This is basically just a jogging/walking route. While it's nice and clean, don't expect anything to go along with your stroll but a few ducks.
