Matisse exhibit was narrowly focused on his paper cuts, and it was cool to be able to see all of them together as he assembled them for the folio. They have an wonderful curator there and every year have a special exhibit you won't see even at the Art Institute of Chicago - Bloomington has a surprisingly deep collection. Worth... More

I had walked by this place many times, but recently had an event there, and I was pleasantly surprised. Most campuses do not have such a nice museum. It has a really good collection of art, and the building is interesting too. The native American art was probably the most interesting. I did not have to pay, but I am... More

This is a very nice collection, beautifully displayed in a nice building. Definitely worth a visit if you are in the area. The building itself is particularly beautiful. Designed by I M Pei, the entry hall is lovely.

Bloomington is a small University town which is rich in cultural life. Music School is best in US and art scene is blossoming. IU Art museum is offering an extensive collection of art on three floors.

This museum is exceptional. The architecture (I.M. Pei) is modern and wonderful. But it is the East Gallery that is the gem. The rotating exhibits include all forms of art. What a lovely idea. Take a walk through and enjoy what the galleries have to offer.

IM Pei designed, it's beautiful. However, it is let down by the 'beigeness' of the displays in freestanding cases. It feels like they haven't decided where to put things yet. For me, the best thing was the environmentally smart cafe with all takeaway packaging being recyclable.

The IU Art Museum is a fun venue for a relaxing afternoon with continuing and special exhibits including ancient jewelry and paintings by Picasso and Jackson Pollock. It's a modern I. M. Pei building that plays on angles -- the steps take some getting used to. A tiny cafe ("Angles") and gift shop occupy the third floor. Musical art too.... More

I absolutely love this museum. They have a great collection of art work by many artists. There are 3 floors filled with collections, a special exhibition hall and a quaint little cafe/gift shop. It's free and offers a place to hang up coats and lockers (free of charge as well) to store larger bags. I recommend this museum to anyone... More

For a university art museum, the IU Art Museum is exceptional. The design is very sophisticated and modern and the collection is extraordinary. The Pre Columbian exhibits are of world class quality. A non miss when one visits the IU campus.

More like a 3.5 star exhibit. It's nicely situated in IU's campus. Building is interesting. The first floor Western Art gallery is actually pretty cool, with a bit of Byzantine to modern western art with a sprinkling of a whole bunch of other stuff in between. Some nice works! We practically had the place to ourselves right after the museum... More
