This was our second time visiting in two years. Attended with the grandkids and their parents. It happened to be "diesel" day and we got there in time to see the diesel locomotives on parade . It was great. Lots to see and very clean grounds. We'll be back

This is by far the largest railroad museum in the USA. They have many operating locomotives and rolling stock and many on display as well. When we went they got the nebraska zephyr out of the barn and we rode in the observation car. We literally spent the entire day at this museum and it is totally worth the admission... More

This was indeed the largest display of trains and locomotives that I have ever seen! They even fire up the locomotives and move them around so that the place feels realistic. The trains date WAY back and also into the modern era. It's an attraction good for young and old and certainly family friendly. Highly recommend this place!

A friend and I visited there on diesel weekend. Took a lot of pictures. It also brought back a lot of memory's with The Chicago and Northwestern trains ant the CTA trains. I am glad that they have them.

Have wanted to come here for ten years. Finally made the hike out. We got to ride a couple of trains, look at some others. It seems to be staffed by ex-CTA and railroad employee's. The clientele seem to be regulars and seem more interested in the operational side rather than the restoration side. We had hoped to see restored... More

The small town of Union Illinois has one of the best train museums ever. Plenty of places to look at trains and all kinds of wonderful artifacts from the good old days of the railways. Fun for the whole family I highly recommend this.

You don't have to be a "train person" to enjoy this wonderfull facility. It's great to wander through time and see all the old engines, cars, and street cars. Watch the schedule so you can see when operating steam, deisel, or electric trains are operational. We went on a Wednesday and there were no crowds, so it was easybto get... More

We saw Thomas the Train at the Illinois Railway Museum. Plan on spending a whole day there, the lines are long for the Thomas Attractions but there are plenty of other things to do while waiting.

The IRM is quite a drive from the far southside of Chicago, but our family made the trek and we were so happy we did. As we arrived we got on the electric engine that gave us a tour of the large property. My grand children, their parents and I went on a Thursday and had the park pretty much... More
