You don't have to be a "train person" to enjoy this wonderfull facility. It's great to wander through time and see all the old engines, cars, and street cars. Watch the schedule so you can see when operating steam, deisel, or electric trains are operational. We went on a Wednesday and there were no crowds, so it was easybto get... More

We saw Thomas the Train at the Illinois Railway Museum. Plan on spending a whole day there, the lines are long for the Thomas Attractions but there are plenty of other things to do while waiting.

The IRM is quite a drive from the far southside of Chicago, but our family made the trek and we were so happy we did. As we arrived we got on the electric engine that gave us a tour of the large property. My grand children, their parents and I went on a Thursday and had the park pretty much... More

This museum is in the farmlands beyond the northwest suburbs of Chicago. Train buffs will love the chance to see and even ride on historic trains. Your admission ticket includes all the train rides you want to take.Trains leave from the depot within the park to ride out and back, about 30 minutes total. Within the park, a trolley runs... More

This museum is amazing. So many trains have been restored to their original state over 100 years ago. Several trains and street cars available to ride. No additional cost, it is included in the museum admission fee. All the volunteers that work at the museum show their passion for trains in the wealth of knowledge they share to all the... More

This out-of-the-way museum has large barns containing passenger cars, trolleys, electric passenger cars, diesel locomotives, steam locomotives, dinning cars, maintenance cars, etc. Also, there is a large selection of semaphores, lights and signs, and a store and depot dinner. They offer a free train ride with your admission. I did not take advantage of the ride, and still could not... More

It will take a whole day to see and enjoy this excellent operating railroad museum. Streetcars interurban railway cars and numerous steam and diesel engines are on display. There is a very nice diner on site for lunch and picnic facilities are available. The volunteer staff are knowledgeable and courteous. A very worthwhile enjoyable look into a important part of... A brief description would be LAME! Instead of boarding one of their old rail cars, you climb aboard a street car that is decorated with some ribbons & wreaths. A small cd player is taped to an arm rail and some music is played during your short ride. Problem is the only time the music can be heard is when... More
