Largest collection of locomotives, street cars and rolling stock in the United States! All pieces are restored by hand by volunteers. Check weekend schedules from April to October to see what machinery is running. They have three Thomas weekends in the summer as well. It will take you a couple of hours to go through each barn to look at... More

We had been to this attraction about 15-20 years ago, but wanted to revisit it to see how it had held up over the years. Well, my answer is "very well!" This is a privately funded organization of people who love and want to keep the history of Americas Railways alive so that younger generations (and many of us older... More

Great place if your expectations are set correctly. Travelled from out of state with our 4 year old son for Diesel day. Got there around 11:30 am and was told the parade was at 1:30. Immediately tried to get on the Zephyr but was told that all the trains had to stop giving rides because they were getting ready for... More

I was looking up some relatives in the genoa and north Kingston cemeteries, and while looking for other things to do , found this . I spent several hours walking the grounds and the big sheds looking at many examples of trains, interurbans and streetcars. also took a 40 minute ride on their electric streetcar, which was included in the... I hadn't been to the museum since I was a kid, decided to check it out again. I was pleasantly surprised that it is still a very cool place and even nicer than it was years ago. For a very small admission price, you can ride any of the rides as often as you want. Most things operate only on... More

We have been to a number of railway museums and this definitely rates right at the top. Our GPS took us right to it. It is out in the country but that means they have plenty of room. We were there before the museum opened and we were leaving as they were closing. The admission price includes unlimited rides on... More

What a great place to visit and well worth the money. Great place if you are a train buff and lots to do even if you are not.

We stopped by as they were getting close to closing, but they still let us go in and have a look around. It was pretty neat, lots of trains, and a lot bigger than I was expecting. I'm not a huge train guy, but we had a good time going through and looking at some of the different kinds, and... More

We took our son (2yrs old at the time) to the Illinois Railway Museum for the "Day out with Thomas". It was a bit pricey but there was so much more to do then we expected! Our son still talks about when we went and we can't wait to go again this year for the Thomas the Train event!

If you are a train buff or know someone who is, this is the place for you. The grounds are spacious, and if the Museum is not open you can walk around. When the Museum is operating it is a suburb place to watch train go by and ride them.
