Spring Valley is a wonderful place for a quiet solitary walk on its many nature trails or an educational visit to the 19th century farm with the kids. There are several different habitats ... woodland, wetland, farm, prairie and arboretum. Throughout the year, they also host many special events. The nature preserve has been an important part of my family's... More

Went there with a map and camera after some enquiry at registration desk. The people in Spring valley are very friendly and informative. Helped me a lot Map itself is self explanatory and with lot of signs, there is no chance of getting lost. So, I started my trail at 2pm with my camera and finished by 3:30. N that... More

the nature santuary is a greta place to get away without going far. Great for short walks with kids, with a sense of exploration and history.

My daughter, who is disabled, and I walk in Spring Valley at least once or twice a week. More in the summer. It is amazing as you get into it how you can forger you are in the suburbs. There are both asphalt and mulch trails. You can walk for miles just switching from one trail to the other. It's... More

We wanted to visit the country side after a week of holiday spent in down-town Chicago. The place was easily found and absolutely worth visiting. Even do the farm was closed because of a dinner party in the evening, we received a guided tour from Catherine that was really worth our trip. Excellent explanation and we really enjoyed our walk... We spent the afternoon at the Volkening Heritage Farm. We saw all the animals, watched a volunteer feed an 8 wk old calf in arms reach, toured the barn and other buildings and hiked (very easy hiking) trails. It really is a beautiful (and huge) park for being right in the muddle of suburban Schaumburg. Our kids ages 9, 12,... More

This place was a enjoyable morning/afternoon with my 2 year old. We are visiting from out of state and needed something to do. Thankfully, the weather was beautiful and my son was able to run around and use up some energy and see a few things along the way. Specifically, he liked the ducks at the pond, seeing the cows... This guided tour was awesome! We visited the log cabin and made homemade butter, applesauce and cornbread in a cast iron skillet. Don't forget to purchase the maple syrup, yummy.

Pleasant staff and beautiful grounds right in the middle of suburbia! Great for all seasons. We had several field trips there over the years and the programs are quite varied. Unfortunately you can still hear the traffic noise in all that tranquility.
