It was family reunion time, and the neice in charge was able to reserve the main shelterhouse as you come in the first entrance to the park. Altho the bathrooms are in the shelterhouse, no one bothered us.

We found this park and drove through the whole thing. It's gorgeous! We walked the Indian Head Trail and another short one that had a beautiful view of the Mississippi River! So happy we stumbled upon this beauty!

Love the place and been there many times through the years. BUT, camping here is pretty bad due to the trains blowing their horns every 30 minutes or so. Federal law says they must, due to the access road to the riverfront. Bring good ear protection in order to sleep.

Camped and hiked here recently. Was able to reserve a camp spot online but when we arrived the host suggested that we look for a site more inland as it appears that the reservable sites are more toward the front of the park nearer to the noisy train tracks. For the middle of the summer the park was very quiet... More

We didn't have time to take advantage of hiking or other things to do in the park, but we did enjoy the views of the Mississippi.

I've been coming to the palisades since I was a little girl with my parents. It's such a beautiful place. They have amazing look out views throughout the park. They all have gorgeous views of the Mississippi River. Camping is always fun here as well. The trails take you through the woods and up the bluffs. I definitely recommend! Great... More

When it comes to some outdoor adventure in Illinois, all other state parks inevitably will be compared to Starved Rock. That's not to say a park like Mississippi Palisades is bad, but my wife and I found ourselves making said comparisons between the two during our first visit to the Palisades this past weekend. Though there are some really top-notch... More

There is train that goes by sometimes around every 20 minutes -- this includes all night long and even on weekends. The horn is prolonged and very loud. Terrible for sleeping. The camping sites are not separated from each other even by just a few trees. The sites are just in a big open area. The bathroom? No sink. No... More
