When my wife rode on the mule-pulled LaSalle Canal Boat with a travel club earlier this year, I was under the weather and opted out of the trip. I was feeling better in late October wanted to ride the boat before it closed for the season at the end of October, so I reserved two seats online and we headed... More

Four of us took advantage of the Fall colors and nice weather and booked a trip on the I & M canal boat. An interesting, educational, relaxing trip on transportation from another time. The guides were knowledgeable and entertaining, a good way to spend a couple of hours enjoying the great out of doors.

On the last day of our girl's getaway to the IL Heritage Corridor, we stopped in LaSalle. We'd heard about the canal trip in Utica with many people saying it no longer existed! Well, it does and if you are interested in history at all, this one hour mule-pulled ride is well worth it. Well-spoken, knowledgeable guides in period costume... More

The Visitor Center is located a few miles off I-39 and worth a visit for those driving through the area. The staff was very friendly and knowledgeable. The center has a cafe along with some information on the area. There is a canal boat ride located nearby across the canal. There is plenty of parking available. For those collecting NPS... More

PROS: interesting history of the area as told by re-enactors; free parking; CONS: may be boring for younger kids as there is nothing to see along the canal- you go forward then you are pulled backwards back to the parking lot. Admission may be expensive for what you get in the tour. Avoid being in the same tour as bus... More

I understand that floods are nobody's fault. However, not revealing that your "mule-pulled boat ride" won't have a mule is just deceitful. I guess this is why the Zerve guy was so adamant that I understand "NO refunds!" before I agreed to purchase. (Really. He repeated it at least 3 times.) Once we parked on a side street and walked... The lock 16 visitor center and LaSalle canal boat are about 1/2 mile from each other. Due to flooding at the time we took the boat, we boarded by crossing a railroad track and following a dirt path. The boat people were very accommodating to our large group. This one hour barge ride is well worth the time. The barge... More

Suddenly everyone at the family reunion wanted to eat lunch together after the canal boat ride. I called the cafe and they put together a buffet of soup, salad, sandwiches and dessert for $15. All the food was delicious especially the soup a dessert. Staff were wonderful.
