The Singer Museum is a very pleasant gallery in the affluent village of Laren. It usually hosts exhibitions by 19th and 20th century Dutch artists - at the moment it is Leo Gestel, a contemporary of Mondriaan. There are a few Rodin sculptures and a very nice sculpture garden. The gallery has a number of spacious rooms and the exhibitions... More

The museum in Laren offers a good quality in a cozy-enviroment because its mid-long museum in the hearth of the main-place in the Dutch ‘Gooi’ (oftenly affected in stereotyping by a serie ‘gooische vrouwen’ that shows that the area is private-mondaine) what is way more wortfull to see paintings than other museums like the Rijks. We visit Singer most years - although we probably skip a year once every while - and always see something memorable, surprising or down-right interesting. They have a variable exposition and always know how to present and explain the deatils of whatever you are seeing. Singer is worth your while, even though for most tourists, it is an hour east... Aside from their wellknown permanent collection, they have regular temporary events that are mostly very interesting. It's not a large museum and you can always find time to spend around 2 hours there.

The Singer Museum is advertising now with an exposition of Mondriaan & Mauve, but there is NO work of Mondriaan at all! This exposition is supposed to be from end of January till May 18th. 2014 do not waste your € 15,- entree fee as you only will see 6 reproductions of Piet Mondriaan. They have a nice collection of... No too large museum, alternating exhibits keep going there interesting. Also the village of Laren, in the old days an agricultural community, then a community of artists, is an interesting place. Just people watching in the summer when sitting on the terrace of Mauve is a wonderful and sometimes hilarious pass time.

When I visit the country of my birth, the Netherlands, I usually try and find time to visit this small, but important museum. A number of years ago I was first introduced to the work of Ferdinand Hart Nibbrig, a Dutch impressionist, who has painted some very fine local views and some wonderful portraits. More recently we visited an exhibition... More
