The museum was well done with a halogram theater of Mr. and Mrs. Grant talking as well as a video upstairs. Lots of artifacts to see and read. It was a self guided tour so we could take our time. Whenever we had a question about something, we always found something posted nearby that gave us a description. The mine... More

Offers a good background of the local history. The last uncapped lead mine in Illinois is preserved below the building and was a must to see. More

The hologram used to introduce the museum was amazing. Evidently, the university that made this is working on one of the steamboats for next year. Great Civil War information, information about General Grant and the other residents of Galena that served in the war. Nice information about mining that was also important to the area. More

Great place to be laid back and enjoy simple wonders. All of the Galena territory is a step back in time and the Historical Society showcases it well. More

The lead mine was interesting even though you can only look in. The exhibits are a bit dusty, but well worth seeing, if only for the sense of the history of the place. More

I really enjoyed this museum. Love the original painting of General Lee surrendering to General Grant. Learned about the other Civil War generals that lived in Galena. One of my favorite history museums I've seen! More
