We hopped on the Gray Line tour at Water Tower and the bus was basically empty, the first guide we had was tough to hear and did not seem enthusiastic at all. We got off at the Willis Tower and hopped back on the Gray Line a couple hours later to finish the tour. This bus was about half full... More

Before taking a tour, I looked at reviews which were less than favorable. Still I risked taking this tour. I booked it online and called the company to schedule pick up. I was picked up on time from my downtown hotel 30 min. before the beginning of the tour and taken to the company office to join the others. The... More

My husband, my daughter, and I took this 4 hour city tour on a Saturday in Janruary. It was awful! So very boring, and as another reviewer pointed out, no hop on hop off during the winter. The entire 4 hours we were let off once at a conservatory for 20 minutes, and another time near the end of the... More

My daughter and I on a visit to Chicago took a taxi from our hotel to the Gray Line office to purchase tickets for their Hop On Hop Off tour in December, only to be told that they didn't do them after a certain date in October. It would have been nice if their brochure had stated that. Ended up... More

We have taken Gray Line tours all over the world and have always had a great experience. I was a little concerned about all the negative reviews on Trip Advisor for this particular tour, but I couldn't imagine it being that bad. We were a group of three, staying at the Courtyard Marriott downtown. Our friends from Wisconsin drove in... More

As a Chicago native I was shocked this tour showed me things I had no idea of! Loved the upper deck and the guide was a genius! A great weekend thing to do if you live here and if you don't!

Cold day in Chicago. We took the 4 hour tour. Pat was an awesome driver. It was a very interesting tour lest you see a lot of the real Chicago.

OMG - where do I start... I) 9.30am pick up for a 10am tour was a 10am pick up for a 10.15am tour 2) The 2pm finish, with a hotel drop off was actually a 1.55pm finish at some place where their changeover occurs, then swap buses to the hotel drop off bus. But the hotel drop off bus wasn't... More

We purchased a go chicago pass and this was included. We figured we would use it instead of cabbing everywhere, since most of the stops where near where we were going. I purchased tickets for this tour, which include a "hop on/hop off" function. The vehicles consist of single deck trolley (busses) and double deck busses with an open top. My biggest and most important issue concerns the vehicles themselves. The double deck busses are wrapped with advertising, making all four sides of the bus a rolling advertisement/billboard for other corporations.... More

Staying in Downtown / The Loop

Neighborhood Profile
Downtown / The Loop
Often visitors' first stop in Chicago, The Loop is a good starting point to sample the city's energy and flavor. This central business district boasts Michelin-rated restaurants, upscale hotels, premier shopping, and enough arresting architecture to keep your camera busy for hours. You won’t find too many photo galleries of downtown Chicago without a shot of Millennium Park and Cloud Gate (“The Bean”), one of the most iconic landmarks in the city. A stunning skyline coupled with cultural attractions like the Art Institute of Chicago present a Downtown where work and play peacefully coexist.
