The cathedral was only 6 blocks from our hotel - Homewood Suites and they offer mass 5 times a day during the week. Beautiful cathedral but was dissapointed in the inside as it appears they took all the old traditional look out and "modernized" it. No side alters, statues, etc.... Still, was glad I went to mass and checked it... More

the architecture was beautiful most inside and outside of the church. The mass was very nice. The priest was hard to hear when he gave the sermon.

The heart of Catholic Chicago, Holy Name Cathedral shows both the glory of 19th century design and the look of post-Vatican II catholicism. The church is open for impromptu visits and their is material available to explain what the visitor is seeing. One of the striking features is the collection of galleros hanging from the ceiling and honoring deceased cardinals... More

It's a beautiful cathedral. Be prepared for huge open space. Also frequent weddings. It's a great place to attend mass. It's a short walk from Michigan Avenue.

Visiting churches with great architecture and history is a great experience anywhere in the world and this one is breathtaking. Right across the Hancock building near the Water Tower.

This is a very cool old school church. The interior is amazing by American standards. Not as ornate as some older European churches, but it holds its own. Do some Google research on an Al Capone event that happened here. There was a famous gangland shoot out of a rival gang on the footsteps of this church. To this day... More

We visited the cathedral and just sat for a while absorbing the peace and beauty while the bustling streets of Chicago waited just outside the doors. The ceiling work is amazing and the marble columns are beautiful. The history and the work that has been put into maintaining this beautiful church are evident when you stop by. I highly recommend...
