This was a nice place to go. We went on a Saturday night. There was a $10.00 cover which wasn't bad at all. The first thing you see after you walk in is the stage all the way in the back. In-between that are tables and a long bar area. There are also a few tables in the back by... More

This place has a variety of great music but be prepared for a cover charge. It's usually well worth it. The place is very very small and the music is loud- so don't go here expecting to have intimate conversation. The menu is typical bar food but the flatbread pizza was delicious.

I love live music and enjoyed my visit to the Underground on a Thursday night. Listened to live Brazilian band followed by the jammin' sounds of Jamaica! Great after hours place located in walking distance from the center of the Mag Mile. Drinks were ok, nothing special, but the music made up for it! Great after dinner and late night... More

The underground wonderbar is esoteric, in the sense that it's a little hard to understand what goes on here.. It's a neat place with an attitude of it's own... however, the music is hit or miss. Been there for Reggae nights which are great .. but been there on other nights when the music is really not very good at... More

If you want to experience Jazz, then this is a must see and do. My husband and I had so much fun here. The music is great and the atmosphere is even better. Doesn't matter when you go, this place is hopping until 4 am every night.

Went here to grab some late night food and drink close to our hotel. Food is mainly organic and freshly prepared. Very good stuff. Service was good. Music was awesome.

The rave reviews by others must be of another place. Maybe 2/3rds full; drinks tasted below the bottom shelf; The so-called "legendary" L. Walker struggling; no one paying attention to her attempts to hype the “crowd”except birthday boys getting humiliated with liquor poured in their throat on a chair in the front. Saturday night with a $15 cover. Trombone soloist... More

Katie Kadan! Katie Kadan! Katie Kadan & the Rockwells! Katie the Lady! We were there on a Saturday night, we loved her show so much I wished that we could have returned the next night. She was the opening act but was so much better than the main show. By the way - I think the address on this trip... More

I went looking for someplace to hear jazz and wandered in here. I was pleasantly surprised. Lonnie Walker was playing solo (which I don't usually like solo acts) but I sat down for a drink and am glad I did. She was great and very knowledgeable, playing all kinds of styles and eras. Yes it is small but that doesn't... More

Staying in Gold Coast

Neighborhood Profile
Gold Coast
Located just north of The Loop, Gold Coast is one of Chicago’s most affluent and popular neighborhoods. The original Playboy, Hugh Hefner, once had a mansion here. In addition to prestigious hotels, historic mansions and luxury high-rise apartments, you’ll also find upscale specialty boutiques and Michelin-starred restaurants. Walk along Oak Street for your shopping fix and dance through the night along Rush Street. The Newberry Library is also a great stop to check out noteworthy exhibits and rare book collections.
