We have been to many big city water fronts and have say Chicago's is the best. No joke, just miles of clean pathways and beaches. I would avoid after dark and on very hot days. Chicago has cut down their police force and the lakefront can get kind of wild after dark and on hot days.

The Loyola Beach Park, located in the Rogers Park Neighborhood, Chicago is by far one of the nicest beach in the city. Also, unlike nearby Evanston beaches, this beach is free of charge. Make sure to check on the wall where community groups paint murals every summer that illustrate the diversity of the neighborhood. Parking is cheep or you can... More

If you're not familiar with the Great Lakes, you will be overwhelmed when you see Lake Michigan. It looks more like an ocean than a lake. I had relatives visiting from New York and they couldn't stop talking about it.

The place to be when it is sunny. I love the water and the vibe. There is a nice cabana structure to sit and get the sand out of the shoes. It is cool to have this on the Gold Coast.

During summertime, the shores of Lake Michigan would remind you of any ocean. Complete with trade and lighthouses, you can enjoy the excitement of any seafaring city. Drive to the North and enjoy ferry rides to great islands in the lake. Some are much like small villages.

We walked along Lakeshore Drive along lake Michigan. The lake is so big that you can't see the other side! Wow! There was still some ice on the lake in late March, which we Californians found amazing.

Nice way to take a break from shopping and tours. North Avenue beach is great place to hang. You can rent a bike there and ride along Lakeshore Drive.

We travled to Chicago in late March and were able to view Lake Michigan from many points. It was so awesome to see it covered with ice! The view from the Shedd Acquarium Dolphin show was one of the best. Viewing from the towers was spectacular. It is a true gift of nature.
