My husband and I recently visited Chicago and in planning our trip found out about the Chicago Greeter program. It is run by the Office of Tourism and is completely free for new time visitors to the City. The program matched us up with a wonderful guide-Rae, who gave us a wonderful overview of the Cultural Center (Tiffany Architecture to... More

Book yourself a greeter. You meet at the Cultural Centre downtown which is an interesting historical building. The greeter will cater to your want to see and do. Ours took us on the subway, down to Wrigleyville and explaining on the historical things about Chicago along the way. We explored a bit of Chinatown, took a water taxi, hoped over... More

We signed up for a tour with Chicago Greeter. Unfortunately, on the day of, my partner wasn't up for going, so I set out to meet the greeter on my own. I am so glad that I didn't back out of this! Peter and I walked all over the loop and downtown areas. He took me in and out of... More

It was our first time visiting Chicago so it was wonderful to have a local resident (who obviously is proud of their fantastic city) show us around. Chicago Greeter was able to pair us up with a greeter that was able to translate for my parents so they could appreciate Chicago too. He was very curtious and respectful of our... More

My 13-year-old grandkids and i had a great tour led by a volunteer guide. She pointed out attractions that we would otherwise probably not have found and was very knowledgeable regarding the City of Chicago. OUr stay in the City was great. I recommend you notify Chicago Greeters at least two weeks before your visit to arrange a FREE private... More

My experience with my Chicago Greeter was amazing. Richard took me on a three hour walking tour focusing on architecture and history. I was captivated by the city and so happy to learn more about it. I can't recommend it enough.

We found this by reading Chicago forum & very glad we found the service. We contacted them online & got quick response. Our guide was Pen, retired engineer who's lived in Chicago over 20 yrs. Before we left the visitor center, we decided our route for the day. He was an excellent guide who explained well with lots of humor.... More

I can't believe these people do this for free! We had an excellent, knowledgeable guide with a good sense of humor. (Rae--sp?). She first took us through the Chicago Cultural Center--which we enjoyed and likely wouldn't have found on our own--and then through Millennium Park. We saw Cloud Gate, Crown Fountain, the Pritzker Pavilion, and much more. It was great... More

This is a great, free service. Our greeter was John Kleiman. He was kind and accompanied us to Lincoln Park/LP Zoo/Conservatory, Alfred Caldwell Lily Pad Pool and the LP neighborhood (I had requested to see these). We went by bus and throughout he shared some tidbits on Chicago history. The LP neighborhood had interesting architecture and our John shared lots... More
