Took a tour with George and have to say he was great. Aside from knowing so much about Chicago he was very friendly and funny. The tour didn't feel like a history class or lecture. It was fun, So make the time to take this tour.

Really nice service Chicago provides for visitors. Chester, our greeter provided tour of wicker park. Really good information and he followed up with us about an art fair in Logan park. I,d give it 5 stars.

We were lucky to have Susan Bernstein as our guide. Her knowledge & passion for the architecture and significant buildings gave us a great appreciation of not only the history but the beauty of this remarkable city. This was our first visit to Chicago and well worth the effort thanks to the Greeter Service and especially Susan.

What a great idea. Search for this tour ahead of your visit. You can describe your interests or be at the guide's discretion. Very professional, comprehensive, and free.

We visited Chicago for the first time in June 2015 and wanted to get a flavour of the city. Our guide was Randy, who emailed us almost as soon as we had signed up for the greeter and started to get to know us and what we wanted to see on the tour. Randy went out of his way to... More

We had a great tour with Christine visiting Wicker Park and Bucktown. Christine was very engaging and she had the tour lasting well beyond the indicated timeframe. The program is fantastic; a private tour for two, how more luxurious can it get?! This makes the experience highly flexible. We really liked the fact that Christine took us to see places... More

We used the Greeter system when we first started to visit New York, so when we decided to visit Chicago, we were delighted to discover that they operate the same system. In NYC the Greeter will meet you at your hotel. In Chicago you meet the Greeter at the Chicago Cultural Center. Our Greeters were Tom and Sherry. They showed... More

I'm not sure how I came upon the Chicago Greeter program but I'm sure glad I did! My husband and I thoroughly enjoyed our tour. We requested what we wanted to see several weeks in advance and had great communication beforehand with our guide. Tom really loves his city and it showed.....he was organized, knowledgeable and hit all the areas... More

Tom was great! He was super knowledgeable about the history and architectural background of the Loop, Gold Coast and Old Town. After the tour, I appreciated and understood Chicago on another level. I highly recommend it!

Staying in Downtown / The Loop

Neighborhood Profile
Downtown / The Loop
Often visitors' first stop in Chicago, The Loop is a good starting point to sample the city's energy and flavor. This central business district boasts Michelin-rated restaurants, upscale hotels, premier shopping, and enough arresting architecture to keep your camera busy for hours. You won’t find too many photo galleries of downtown Chicago without a shot of Millennium Park and Cloud Gate (“The Bean”), one of the most iconic landmarks in the city. A stunning skyline coupled with cultural attractions like the Art Institute of Chicago present a Downtown where work and play peacefully coexist.
