This is an absolutely ideal way to start one's stay in Chicago. I signed up after seeing the glowing reviews and it is hands down one of the best city tours I have ever undertaken. My tour guide Randy Green was knowledgeable, urbane, funny, witty and passionate about Chicago. I recommend this program highly -- you will learn so much... More

Where to begin? We stayed in Chicago for 7 days over Spring Break and decided a tour on our first day was a must do to get a lay of the land. With little to go on but our ages and two areas of interest, our guide Rae, was spot on. She was MARVELOUS! Hit many of the places on... More

We are a group of French students staying in Chicago for 2 weeks, and we were lucky to discover the city with our Greeter Tom. He gave us more than four hours of his time to introduce us to three different neighbourhoods: the Loop, but also the Gold Coast and the Old Town. The explanations were really precise and interesting,... More

My girlfriend and I had read excellent reviews about the tour, but even when we were all booked up we weren't sure what to expect. Ray warmly welcomed us at the Cultural Center and his enthusiasm was infectious from the beginning. He gave us a brief history of Chicago which proved to be excellent background information throughout his tour. Ray... More

This was a great way to learn about Chicago from the locals. We were going to do a bus tour but did this instead. It lasted around an hour and was both informative and entertaining.

After reading here so many great comments about this tour my friend and I decided to book it. For me it was the best tour ever! Our greeter was Tom and he made us fall in love with Chicago. Beside all the must-see attractions he also showed us some hidden gems of this city. It was the perfect four hours... More

We used Big Apple Greeters in NYC and had a great experience. We hoped for a similar experience in Chicago and we weren't disappointed. Our guide was Larry and he couldn't have been nicer or more informative. It truly is like having a friend in the city you're visiting! Locals who love their town providing free tours!! It's an amazing... More

Amazing! Bill Moss provided a tremendous introduction to Chicago, a wonderful city that has now hosted over 50 million visitors. We were able to see things we certainly never would have seen on our own, and Bill is a credit to this great program. Where else can you find someone who not only will sit down and have a cup... Our greeter was Tom and he was shadowed by another greeter-in-training. We went on a walking tour around downtown Chicago, mainly the Loop, on 3rd April. We had to change our plans at the last minute and Tom was fine about it and changed the tour to suit our time restraints. He was very knowledgeable about the city and its... More

Staying in Downtown / The Loop

Neighborhood Profile
Downtown / The Loop
Often visitors' first stop in Chicago, The Loop is a good starting point to sample the city's energy and flavor. This central business district boasts Michelin-rated restaurants, upscale hotels, premier shopping, and enough arresting architecture to keep your camera busy for hours. You won’t find too many photo galleries of downtown Chicago without a shot of Millennium Park and Cloud Gate (“The Bean”), one of the most iconic landmarks in the city. A stunning skyline coupled with cultural attractions like the Art Institute of Chicago present a Downtown where work and play peacefully coexist.
