I live in the area and have visited this beach many times. North Ave Beach is a nice spot to hang out and relax during the week in the summer. During the weekend it will get PACKED. There is technically no drinking on the beach, but it happens and it will get rowdy. So if you are a twenty something... More

Very hot day so headed for the beach. Nice beach, very busy but hired sunbeds and umberellas for the day and laid looking out over the water reading, could have been in a beach resort rather than in a busy city. Shops around selling food and drink and public toilets handy.

North Avenue beach has it all-Castaways is a restaurant/bar that you can enjoy and feel as though you are on a beach in Florida! It offers all kinds of rental gear too! In addition, it is a great location for people watching. The crowd tends to be much younger so if your looking to relax this wouldn't be your spot.... More

North Avenue Beach is a great place to get pictures of the city, along with the planetarium on the south side. The beach can be cool compared to the rest of Chicago if there is a lake breeze, so be prepared with a sweater or jacket. The beach house is a great work of architecture, resembling a 1930’s ocean liner... More

It's great that there is a beach within the city limits, which is also quite decent. It's a great contrast to be at the beach and at the same time see the metropolitan area and skyline.

We visited North Avenue Beach on a walk along Lakeshore Trail from Michigan Avenue. A walking tunnel leads to North Avenue from the water. While there wasn't much activity along the beach on this brisk September morning, I suspect that during the right time of year/day, the volleyball courts and chess tables are hopping.

Having grown up in a small coastal town I was surprised to find something so similar to a beach so close to a city. Volleyball courts everywhere are fun if you have some friends to play with!

To be able to swim and sit in the sun for a couple of hours was lovely. We walked from Wabash Ave. through the park, about 20 minutes.

I tried to get to this beach two different days and could not get on it. there was no parking. literally there was no parking lot. there was something that may have went to a lot, although I don't think so, but it was coned off anyway. I circled around a few times, and found no resemblance of a lot.... More
