I know why people go here but it is more just a place on the water that was developed for people near the North Side to go on a summer day. Having been to Salt Water beaches on both coasts, I have to say this one on the Lake Front in the city is not very impressive in that sense.... More

It had sand and water so technically, it's a beach. Can get very crowded and I defiantly recommend taking public transport or walking there.

We live a short walk from North Avenue Beach on Chicago's near North Side so we are bias in our opinion. In the summer, on a hot Saturday or Sunday morning, there isn't anything like it. Oh, you can be among the million or so people who congregate along the beach for the annual air and water show in August.... More

At north ave beach there's always something to do rent a divy bike, walk, jog ,workout or even check out the annual air and water show in August or you can go to one of the venues which are very tasteful

Come here on the weekend but remember that everyone looks really in shape here, so don't feel self conscious. The beach is great for being in the city and you can see the high rises from afar. All together a great experience of how chicagoans take advantage of their summer!

Okay, yes, it's a city beach. It can get crowded, and busy. But I love it for a number of reasons: how accessible it is from public transportation, the air & water show each year, and yes-- the fact that it's a city beach! Not every city has a beach by any means. It has unbeatable views of the skyline,... More

Something i never expect to do in Chicago (go to the beach), Love the water so i can tell you it was amazing and well worth it to spent a day at the beach even if you are not going for long time, a little crowed but it was nice plenty of space for you to sit down and get... More

I miss my days at a white sandy beach where I used to live. So, it was a pleasure to enjoy the sights of waves, bright blue skies and the sound of waves just a short drive from anywhere in Chicagoland. It was crowded though, had a little too much litterl for all the trash cans around and cost $14... More

Being from the Pacific Northwest, we just don't have "beaches" like this! Something for everyone to do, regardless of your age. There is nowhere like this in the US.....The brilliant Chicago City scape as your backdrop, the ocean like safe swimming, Sports, Food, Drinks........Every amenity you could ask for. Too many people but we didn't come for a peaceful day,... More

The beach definitely gets a bit crowed, but we didn't have a problem finding a spot to lay our towels out. The water is chilly, but refreshing on a hot day. There are plenty of options for food and drink along the beach, and lots of space to play volleyball or toss a ball around.
