The Architectural Inside tour by Chicago Detours was excellent- its a great way to spend a coupel hours learning of hidden treasures and architectural tidbits- our guide was great and we saw things that we hadn't noticed on numerous trips to Chicago- the details and stories behind buildings was wonderful

We did 2 tours with Amanda -- the Interior Architecture with the Pedway, and a walking tour of the Wicker Park area. She is personable and extremely knowledgeable (and some of our group went with Elizabeth who is also excellent) and the tours gave us great information. Interior Architecture starts in the Chase building; we also saw a Methodist church... More

We took the Loop Interior Architecture Tour with Elizabeth. We are locals, from the suburbs, and have worked in and visited Chicago all of our lives. This tour, though, taught us so much that we didn't know about our hometown. Highlights of the tour included going into the Chicago Temple Building while a wedding party was being photographed and learning... More

This past weekend I decided to take a weekend trip & get away for a little bit. I was referred to Chicago DeTours by a friend, I did the Pub Crawl & it was so much fun. I've lived 2 hours outside of Chicago for several years & learned so much about the history & was able to meet different... More

We selected the 2 hour interior architecture tour. Time flew! Our guide Pawel was obviously not only familiar with the history but had a passion that infused his story and greatly added to our appreciation of what we were seeing. Had we taken this tour when we first got to town rather than the last day, I would have enjoyed... More

What a great experience! This tour is fun, educational, and inspirational. We got bona fide peaks behind the scenes at some of Chicago's great musical landmarks - including some you probably never knew existed. I really loved the way Amanda used the time on the bus from one locale to another to give us little lessons in the history we... More

That was an amazing immersion into the music culture of Chicago! My boyfriend and I did this tour last Saturday and we loved it! We were in Chicago for 3 days and it was actually the best way to go deeper into the legend of music of Chicago and discover many places in the city, including north side and south... More

We were downtown on a cold, rainy day and this tour was the perfect thing to do - you're inside most of the time so the rain didn't bother us. I am from Chicago and know a lot, but I was amazed by how much I don't know! The tour guide was so knowledgeable - I felt like she could... More

Great outing for those just getting to the city in the afternoon - we learned a lot as we got to relax with a few drinks. The tour is extremely well organized and full of historical, little-known facts - Elizabeth was incredibly passionate about the city and information being shared. The stops for drinks/appies were also great and well timed.... More

We really enjoyed our Interior Architectural and Pedway Tour with Vicki. She was a great guide, knew her stuff! She kept us moving, but allowed time for iPad videos as well as questions. We lived in Chicago for many years and walked past some of the buildings without knowing much about them. We now see them with greater appreciation. Would... More

Staying in Downtown / The Loop

Neighborhood Profile
Downtown / The Loop
Often visitors' first stop in Chicago, The Loop is a good starting point to sample the city's energy and flavor. This central business district boasts Michelin-rated restaurants, upscale hotels, premier shopping, and enough arresting architecture to keep your camera busy for hours. You won’t find too many photo galleries of downtown Chicago without a shot of Millennium Park and Cloud Gate (“The Bean”), one of the most iconic landmarks in the city. A stunning skyline coupled with cultural attractions like the Art Institute of Chicago present a Downtown where work and play peacefully coexist.
