The Chicago Architecture Foundation river cruise is an absolute must for all tourists in Chicago, particularly first-timers. It was a great way to see a lot of the city, plus orient ourselves for the rest of our stay. We especially loved that the tour was given by a volunteer who was clearly passionate about her love of design & architecture,... More

As others have mentioned, one thing that sets this cruise apart is the docents from the Chicago Architecture Foundation. Our docent spoke for 90 minutes about the architectural history of Chicago landmark buildings and the changing role of the river. The city becomes even more interesting given this sociohistorical context. In addition, the ship is quite lovely. It was in... More

There isn't much to say except I hope everyone gets an opportunity to enjoy a river cruise with the First Lady and the Chicago Architecture Foundation. What a lovely way to see the city, with a highly knowledgeable and lovely volunteer giving you interesting facts about the city.

Open area to sit on top or protected underneath. I am hard of hearing but I could hear their speaker clearly. Slow boat ride along the river through the city with very informative speaker on the buildings' history and present use. There is a bar and BATHROOM on board.

We're usually not the guided tour type, BUT this one is really special... This really added to our Chicago experience & understanding! The guide Sylvia was extremely knowledgeable and very enthusiastic about architectural history; she could tell a great story. Please note that contrary to the other companies operating on the Chicago River, the guides of the Foundation are all... More

What a wonderful way to get acquainted with Chicago and its outstanding architecture. Probably the best 90 minutes one could spend in Chicago and well worth the time and money ($35). After taking the tour you will never overlook the wonderful buildings in Chicago or other cities when visiting. A must do when in Chicago

We had been recommended to do this and were very appreciative of the tip-off. The tour leaves from the centre of town and therefore is easy to get to and provides a great introduction to this fantastic city. There are other "Architectural tours", but this one has a CAF (Chicago Architectural Foundation) volunteer guide, lasts 90-minutes and although not 'inexpensive'... More

We opted out of buying our tickets via Ticket Master and bought tickets the day before our actual cruise at the Chicago Architecture Foundation (224 S. Michigan Avenue). We took a morning cruise to beat the heat and it was beautiful. Lindy was our docent and she was engaging and so knowledgeable. (We actually arrived at the dock the same... More

It was great to go on the Architectural Foundation River Cruise - really enjoyed the docents comments (they are all volunteers) and enjoyed seeing the different architecture and hearing how Chicago was rebuilt after the great fire. It's a wonderful city and this tour is well worth doing!

We took the 90 minute weekend morning photography cruise. Although pricey compared to some of the other cruise companies we thought it was well worth it. Our tour guide had a wealth of knowledge about architecture designs and the Chicago landmarks. The boat stops several times at specific spots for people to take pictures (you can also move about the... More
