It's a typical city shopping street! Food joints are expensive and so is everything else! But it's alive with people even during crazy chicago winters! It's a nice street to stroll in the evening - highlight are the bike stations located just on the entrance to the lakefront trail!

If you want to pay $800 for a top (not even made in US) then go along Michigan Avenue. It's interesting to browse along though and the Walgreen's at Michigan/Chicago Street is very reasonable and has lots of souvenirs.

JMJ Many beautiful shops and museums to visit, but what about all the begging and noise! Was downtown to see an exhibit at the Art Museum and couldn't hardly get up the stairs for the Street Wise vendors, musicians( for lack of another term for the sounds they made), and just beggars admitting they were looking for "money to get... The "magnificent mile" is a great walking opportunity any time of the year. The selection of shop is impressive, worth the time one spends walking along the avenue.

It's nice to window shop, but prices are all astronomical. If you've done Fifth Avenue in NYC, this is a repeat. If you plan to buy a Rolex, diamond jewelry, high end clothing, there is a lot to choose from. Bring many credit cards! You can just walk over the homeless sitting in the streets if they spoil your scene.

If you like shopping and architecture this is one of the places to go. Fantastic buldings, some of them of a great historical value and the best brands to please those who love shopping. A must!!

Burberry, Cartier, Neiman Marcus they're all here so if you want to keep your wallet closed this is NOT the place. there's a Nordstrom Rack just off on a side street, but head South down towards the river and you'll find a host of cheaper outlet stores like Burlington and TJ Maxx. That having been said, if you're looking for... More

It's definitely fun to visit the Magnificent Mile, but don't expect a lot of unique shopping (unless you come from somewhere that doesn't have the shopping options of a major city). However, no trip to Chicago would be complete without a trip to Michigan Avenue. It's where the Midwest brushes shoulders with visitors from all over the world. Somehow the... More

Staying in Magnificent Mile

Neighborhood Profile
Magnificent Mile
Over 400 stores pack the concrete along Michigan Avenue, the eight-block stretch known as Magnificent Mile. This area between Oak Avenue and the Chicago River is more a shopping paradise than a full-out neighborhood. For prime upscale shopping, this is the place to go. It’s busy, energetic, and packed with shoppers. You'll also find hundreds of restaurants and dozens of hotels, all on the mid- to high-end scale. Some of the city’s most iconic buildings like the Wrigley Building, John Hancock Center and other architectural marvels define the magnificence of this neighborhood.
