Practical issues first; street parking at the Adler is a iffy proposition so plan on parking further away (i.e Field Museum/Soldier Field or at Grant Park) and getting here by either walking, taking a CTA bus, or riding one of the free trolleys/shuttle during the summer. It was a surprisingly warm December day when we visited and so walked from... More

We tried to visit this attraction, but it was closed for the day as some filming was taking place. A lady outside gave us a free ticket for the next day so we went back then. I am so pleased we did not pay as it was very poor value for money. We arrived as it opened at 9.30 and... More

My grandaughters and I went on a bus trip with Thrivent Financial on August 11, 2012 and we had a fabulous time. We had a choice of the Shedd Aquarium or the Adler Planetarium and we chose the Adler. The shows were good, especially the theater that took us on a visual trip through the universe and identified all the... More

Not very many interactive things to do like others I have been to in the past. The show was good but the exhibits seemed a little lacking, plus it was set up in a way that did not flow very well through it plus kept getting turned around. Next time I think I would just go to shows versus exhibits.

It's $25 a person and you get to see 2 'shows'. The first show was pretty interesting but the second one was definitely written for school children. Also we walked through most of the museum part but then had to run to see the 'shows' once those were done the museum was closed and we were kind of shown the... More

I had a Chicago Pass and decided I would go here before I head to the Aquarium. The check-in line was short. The staff member asked me which 3-D movie I wanted to see(Space Junk or something about the Sun). So u chose Space Junk. It was interesting, but short. I walked around the exhibits and very few grabbed my... More

One of the "stellar" planetariums. The usual fare here is anything but. In addition to the regular exhibits and viewing they have spectaculars that are "out of this world"! One not so long ago had a great score and light show integrated with the constellations. This is a must see.

I was so excited to go to the Planetarium, we even cut our trip at the Aquarium short to be sure we had time at the Planetarium.. but wish we would have stayed at the aquarium... the planetarium just didn't have much to do... We watched the "Space Junk" movie, and that was about as exciting as the rest of... More

I am an astronomy enthusiast, and I loved what I found here - the planetarium shows are great, and the Gemini capsule was a nice surprise too!

Staying in South Loop

Neighborhood Profile
South Loop
This downtown neighborhood offers a variety of activities ranging from cultural to sporting. If you happen to visit during football season, you may bump into a boisterous few fans on their way to a Bears game on the southernmost tip of South Loop. On the flip side, Museum Campus offers cultural and educational experiences in its planetarium, museum and aquarium, all situated along the lakefront. Grant Park is one of Chicago’s premier locations for green space and recreation with views of Lake Michigan and the Chicago skyline. Take a stroll down memory lane in the historic Prairie District where you can enjoy views of old historic homes. Restaurants, theaters, and clubs are spread throughout the neighborhood along with a collection of burger joints along Michigan Avenue just across from the park.
