Get a great sense of what Englishmen went through to cut out their new home in a wilderness inhabited by Native Indians. Original old building still there on the waterfront.

Take a look at the 18th century village and military fort. Interesting look back in time. Great grounds with beautiful century old trees with Spanish moss hanging off the limbs. Many building foundations still there to see as well as the fort and entrance to the barracks. Many artifacts from the site are showcased in the welcome center as well... More

The fort is a glimpse back into 18th Century life in the colonies. While none of the buildings survive, the foundations and artifacts show how the people lived every day. As the launching point for the British forces that beat the Spanish at the Battle of Bloody Marsh (1742), Ft Frederica secured Georgia for the English.

Much of the footprint of the fort has been excavated and it made for fascinating exploration. It was worth the hour spent here.

If you want to learn the history of St. Simon's, a trip to Fort Frederica is a must. You take a self-guided tour of the ruins and see how people lived when the island was first settled. The grounds are beautiful.

Visited Fort Frederica National Monument en route to Little St. Simons Island, Georgia. Anyone interested in history must stop here. The fort is situated on a beautiful part of St. Simons Island. I had not been to Fort Frederica in over 50 years. The staff at the fort was friendly and helpful. Unfortunately a thunderstorm was approached so had to... More

The fort was not what we expected. Essentially, the tour is a walk through the remains (foundations) of an early English village. The walk is easy and enjoyable. The visitor center is being remodeled. The fort itself is well marked with many placards explaining the various building remnants.

Fort Frederica is not a great example of historic ruins. There is a welcome center with a few decent displays...better for kids than for adults, and a gift store. The site itself is perhaps a 10 acre field with one fairly intact ruin out by the marsh, and perhaps 6 or 7 foundations or ruins with low walls. There are... More
