Huntington Castle is a beautiful place steeped in history. The guided tour is a must which shows the grand interior of this well preserved castle. The Gardens are also beautiful in a setting looking down Slaley valley towards Mt.Leinster. You can finish your day with a cuppa at the tea room to rest those tired legs.

Brilliant from the outside, Unfortunately we did not know that it opened between 2 and 5. We arrived there on spec at 1pm so just got a look at it. Would love to go back and do the tour. Only does guided tours by the way.

This is a fascinating Country house still lived in by the successors of the original founding fathers in the 1600's.It is relatively small by the standards of such places but is well maintained and filled with antiques and artefacts of considerable historic interest. We were assured that there are several resident ghosts!Family portraits abound as do Hunting trophies and original 17th... I was there already 3 years ago, many things have changed since then - for better. The house is full of authentic items, furniture and paintings and you will be told their origins and stories by a guide. There were many interesting and eccentric members in the family (the family has owned the place since 1600) and one one them... More

If you are interested in the history of this country and in particular the history of the famous Esmonde family then a trip to Huntington Castle is a must. You will be greeted by one of the family - who told us he would be a Baron if he had the £4k to purchase the title. He takes groups on... More

I came across Huntingdon/Clonegal castle years ago via a TV documentary and have always wanted to visit. The surrounding countryside and villages are delightful, but the signage is dreadful. I'm good with maps but even so, it was a challenge. When I and my family finally made it to Clonegal village it was straightforward enough, though additional Brown signs would... More

Wow! Clothes pegs at the ready? Do not be fooled by the smart brochure?! And hard to find! Our Tom Young Tom took us way off track. Only a tiny signpost once we found Clonegal directed us and up a real rough and tumble farm track onto a rough pebble car park. Entry is through the tea room, a tiny... More

We just wanted to respond to a few of the issues you raised - we are sorry your Tom Tom sat nav took you 'way off' but that is not our fault - we are located in the middle of a rural village, so sorry if things are 'too rural' for you. The Stables are not occupied - the smell... More

Visited with kids aged 7 to 16 and everyone was charmed with this atmospheric and intriguing place. This is no restored history museum piece. Instead history lives and continues with original family descendents still at home and giving the tour. The house is fascinating and some great family stories to be heard. Roses in full bloom, plentiful and fragrant around... More

A MUST see if you are travelling to Ireland!....Huntington Castle is by far one of my favourite destinations in Ireland! ...Beautiful, peaceful gardens and the paintings on display in the castle are worthy of a visit in their own right. I truly encourage everyone to include this destination on their Bucket List when they are visiting Ireland...I would also recommend... More
