We live near Decatur and have enjoyed watching the Decatur Square area develop into a fun place to wander, connect up with friends, or dine out with my honey. It is pedestrian friendly, with multiple shops and restaurants available of wandering, shopping and dining. Parking at the nearby public lot is reasonable. Put on your walking shoes and enjoy this... I was impressed with little downtown Decatur. It's got a good mix of city and small town feel with a funky vibe. We felt super safe walking around at night, and all the restaurants and bars we went into were friendly and cool. There were people preforming on the square and lots of great people watching as well. Great restaurants for any pocketbook! Cakes and Ale is always written up as one of the best in Atlanta! Italian fare at 246, and great french fries with dipping sauces at Leons. All restaurants seem to have great mixologists. Love charcuterie at Iberian Pig. My son loves all the beer choices at Brickstore Pub! And those are just a few... More
The Decatur Square is the focal point of downtown Decatur, It is a beautiful public space that it used for concerts, book festivals, arts festivals and other events. Around the square are many local restaurants and shops that provide endless opportunities for eating, window shopping, real shopping and people watching.
I enjoying go to the square and enjoying the summer activities, musical artists, etc. Lunchtime many workers from nearby businesses can be seen sitting on the lawn or at the different picnic tables eating their lunch. Walking down the square is very relaxing whether it is window shopping, going into the different stores and restaurants, or exchanging pleasantries with others.
There is always something happening. Beer fest. Wine fest. Family-friendly concerts in May & September on Saturday nights. Excellent dining. Great pubs on or near the Square. Otis would be a happy man.
The Square offers a lovely mix of shops, pubs, and restaurants (from low end but still delicious to high end). MARTA has a station at The Square so it is easily accessible. Check out decaturga.com to see if there is an outdoor movie or concert when you'll be visiting. Favorite restaurants: Cakes and Ale, Leon's, Victory Sandwich, Sapori di Napoli... More
