We had a very unpleasant - actually frightening - bus tour. The wheelchair lift does not work properly - the driver had a length of pipe she stuck in a hole to get it to operate but when that didn't work she had to hand pump the lift. Her comment: "they need to get this fixed". There are no tie... More

we visited here to get an overview of Sapelo Island. I tried to do it on the internet, but we found the best way was to go to the visitor's center and he was so informative about the island, the things to see, the amount of walking (important since one of our party has problems walking), times of the ferry... A nice place to visit before taking the ferry to Sapelo Island. If you can arrange it do the tour on Sapelo as Yvonne is a true local and knows all about the island. She has the keys to everything on the island. We choose to climb up the light house and she had the keys for that. A visit... More

This is a nice place to wait for the Sapelo Ferry. They have rest rooms, gifts, local interest books and information, gifts, souvenirs and a friendly staff. This is where you call to make ferry reservations and where you purchase ferry tickets CASH OR CHECK ONLY. Credit cards okay on merchandise from the shop. Call 912 437-3224 Hours are Tuesday... What a deal, going on the state park tour of Sapelo Island which includes 20+ minute ferry ride to island, tour with a local guide and bus driver (who also makes sweet grass baskets!), an island not overrun with tourists. Includes stop at RJReynolds mansion and wandering through some parts on your own. All for $15, an incredible value.

4 of us went to the center and ferried to the island. Wonderful history lessons. The tour guide was so personable and offered so much more than we expected. The light house did not disappoint. us.

We arranged a private tour of the very interesting, historical island. The visitor center has a list of private guides but a larger group tour is also available. The wonderful lady who escorted us was the 87 year old granddaughter of a slave. There is a nice ferry ride back and forth and the only way to get there is... More
