This park has everything going for it. It has a nice easy to moderate trail from which you can see and touch the unique walls that once protected the first European settlers in the United States. (Read up on Prince Madoc -- it's fascinating!) There is an amazing overlook on the trail. The lake has a nice sandy beach and... More

My family and I really enjoyed Fort Mountain! The cabins were great at a really good price (cabins 6-15 have been remodeled. Hiking and mountain biking abound! The trails are for REAL mountain bikers. Very challenging. Lots of great views. The lake is beautiful. I rode through the campgrounds. Clean and well set up with lots of space in between.... More

This was my first visit to Fort Mountain SP, but surely not my last given I checked out on July 24th. and have already booked a reservation for next summer. My family has camped (pop-up camper, tent, and cabin) at Amicalola and Vogel State Parks numerous times over the past 22 years. Both are wonderful. Unable to get a cabin... More

We ended up here by fate I suppose. We set out with no destination and ended up 10 miles from the park when my child was ready to get out of the car. We decided to hike up to the lookout... well we should have waited. A storm came through right as we were reaching the lookout. Thankfully there was... More

We come to North GA every summer for a week or so and have always stayed at either Amicalola or Vogel. This year, we had trouble getting a cabin at either, and we found availability at Fort Mountain. We couldn't be happier. Some of the cabins were remodeled in 2014, and our jaws dropped when we walked in. They are... More

Recently visited Fort Mountain with my wife. The park is well laid out, with paved roads leading throughout. Ample parking and restroom facilities were available. We hiked up the trail leading to the lookout area. The trail was quite rocky at times and moderately strenuous. The views are absolutely stunning, and well worth the hike. During our visit, the stone... More

Our family has been visiting Ft Mountain and staying in the cabins for the last 15+ years. They have completely replaced cabins 6-15 on the top loop, which is where we normally stay. They've done a nice job with the new cabins, but there are some issues: 1) Absolutely no closets, and very few hooks on which to hang clothes.... More

We camp here and also visit for the day. There are nice hiking trails, a beautiful lake for fishing, paddle boats and a clean beach for swimming. Campground is always quiet and clean. We have seen bears several times so keep food secure and trash in locked receptacles. Great private area for group camping too.

It's so beautiful up there! We hiked up to the stone tower up top, but couldn't see anything due to the trees being grown out - which I imagine isn't a problem in any other season. We then continued to the overlook, and the views are breathtaking! Let me first say that the hiking trail is a little rocky, and... More
