Description: This popular park on Lake Allatoona is ideal for swimming, water skiing...
This popular park on Lake Allatoona is ideal for swimming, water skiing and fishing. Visitors can bring their own boats or rent from nearby marinas. A sand swimming beach is nestled in a cove and surrounded by trees, providing a great place to cool off during summer. Picnic shelters and group shelters may be rented for meetings, parties, reunions and other celebrations. Guests often stay overnight in rental cottages, a spacious campground or the park’s lakeside yurt. While best known for the 12,000-acre lake, Red Top Mountain is also a hiker’s haven. More than 15 miles of trails wind through the forested park, providing opportunities for exercise and nature photography. A short, paved trail behind the park office is suitable for wheelchairs and strollers, welcoming guests to explore a reconstructed 1860s homestead. The gravel-topped 4-mile Iron Hill Trail is open to both hikers and bikers, offering pretty views of the lake’s shoreline.Named for the soil’s rich red color caused by high iron-ore content, Red Top Mountain was once an important mining area. Iron pour programs are occasionally held near the Vaughn Cabin behind the park office.

If you are visiting Cartersville, this is a great place to visit. It's free! There are walking trails that will take you to the top of the mountain. The view of Lake Allatoona is breath-taking! You need proper foot attire if you plan to walk the trails. I recommend that you walk the trails early in the morning during the... More

We rented a party barge from Park Marina in the state park. Was Memorial Day weekend, was awesome. Lake Allatoona is not huge & and there were lots of boats out on a Saturday but we did just fine. The park is lovely, forested and hilly. Nature at it's best. We only did the boating but hope to go back... More

Arrived after the ranger station was closed but they had everything in the pickup box with precise directions to our camp site. We had a water + power site and everything worked, the site was nice and level and clean. There are lots of close comfort stations and the kids loved the playground and the beach. My only complaint is... More

My boyfriend and I have been here often and love this park in all seasons. The Homestead loop is a must-hike!! The trail is around 5.5 miles and has many great views of Lake Alltoona and a couple of great swimming stops as well if you have the time/gear!! The visitor's center/trading post has just been re-done and is very... More

Very nice State Park. Grounds and clean and well kept. Just relax and taken in nature and/or enjoy the views. There are lots of trails ranging in difficulty. Great for anyone who loves the outdoors or just need a quick getaway from the city.

This is a wonderful place to fish, and hike here. If you are lucky you may even see a deer near the road. During the week is the best time to go because it's close to Atlanta Ga. and it gets crowded on the weekend. This month (April) is one of the best months to go. It's so beautiful with... More

We love this state park. The camping is good and the facilities are well maintained. We enjoy the boat ramps and day use areas around the park for year round enjoyment of the park. I hope they re-open the lodge once the business from Lake Point picks up and brings more people to our area. I love mountain biking the... More

This is one of the most beautiful parks I've ever seen...and I've been to a lot. Iron Ridge Trail is amazing and follows the breathtaking beauty of untouched Lake Allatoona. I like to take the trail 30 minutes in and 30 minutes out to enjoy the lake view the whole time. Also a great bike trail...flat all the way...

We live close by and go to Red Top quite often; for hiking, mountain biking, nature watching, and kayaking/swimming. Some of the areas can get quite crowded, but you can find areas that are quieter, if you know where to look. The ranger staff here is fantastic! If you ever get a chance, be sure to catch an Iron Pour--one-of-a-kind... More

There are a lot of nice state park and lake access in Cartersville and Canton area. This is a great place and only 15mins from our home. We get a senior yearly parking pass for $25 and come and go all summer. No fee to enter just a car parking fee in some areas.
