Description: This popular park on Lake Allatoona is ideal for swimming, water skiing...
This popular park on Lake Allatoona is ideal for swimming, water skiing and fishing. Visitors can bring their own boats or rent from nearby marinas. A sand swimming beach is nestled in a cove and surrounded by trees, providing a great place to cool off during summer. Picnic shelters and group shelters may be rented for meetings, parties, reunions and other celebrations. Guests often stay overnight in rental cottages, a spacious campground or the park’s lakeside yurt. While best known for the 12,000-acre lake, Red Top Mountain is also a hiker’s haven. More than 15 miles of trails wind through the forested park, providing opportunities for exercise and nature photography. A short, paved trail behind the park office is suitable for wheelchairs and strollers, welcoming guests to explore a reconstructed 1860s homestead. The gravel-topped 4-mile Iron Hill Trail is open to both hikers and bikers, offering pretty views of the lake’s shoreline.Named for the soil’s rich red color caused by high iron-ore content, Red Top Mountain was once an important mining area. Iron pour programs are occasionally held near the Vaughn Cabin behind the park office.

We picked the kids up from camp nearby and wanted to spend the weekend with the entire family. This was the first overnite trip for the family in years. I must say, these were the nicest cabins we've ever stayed at in any state park. We had a nice lake view of the marina. There was a picnic table, along... More

If you love being in nature, this is a great park not too far from the metro busy life. Small putt-putt area, but pure putt-putt not the arcade style. Picnic areas, pavilions, and a nice beach area, certainly worth a day visit.

Have gone to Red Top several times since I was young, but never camped. First camping experience this weekend. Campsites are clean, easy to get to and very quiet. Each has a fire pit and a picnic table. Some come with electric and water hook-ups some don't. Luckily, we had both, but could never get the water to come out... More

We take Boy Scouts up to this location to camp. The park is clean and allows for easy camping where sites have fire pits. You must reserve a camp site but easy to do. Very quite area too since away from the highway and busy roads. Nice place to picnic and fish.

Red Top is our favorite state park in all of Georgia. We camp here, hike, bike, boat, geocache, play tennis and pickle ball, volunteer, and then some. There aren't too many things you can't do here. It's a beautiful place and is very near and dear to our hearts.

Don't waste your time at this State Park. It's badly managed and not kept up very well. Grass is very seldom cut and most of the wildlife have been run off or harvested during their deer season. I'm not sure if the Lodge is open or not because their never seems anyone there. The "Rangers" that I dealt with were... More

We always enjoy going to the park. Usually we rent a boat at holiday park marina. Not as many deer as there once was. Lots of beaches and parking. It is nice to get out on the water in the Summer.

We spent the day on Sunday here at the free picnic area. There is a pay section which costs $5.00 to enter and we have been there before, problem is that area usually full of people. Going to the other entrance that is free even though it doesnt have a beach it is still great for the family and less... More
