This popular park on Lake Allatoona is ideal for swimming, water skiing and fishing. Visitors can bring their own boats or rent from nearby marinas. A sand swimming beach is nestled in a cove and surrounded by trees, providing a great place to cool off during summer. Picnic shelters and group shelters may be rented for meetings, parties, reunions and other celebrations. Guests often stay overnight in rental cottages, a spacious campground or the park’s lakeside yurt. While best known for the 12,000-acre lake, Red Top Mountain is also a hiker’s haven. More than 15 miles of trails wind through the forested park, providing opportunities for exercise and nature photography. A short, paved trail behind the park office is suitable for wheelchairs and strollers, welcoming guests to explore a reconstructed 1860s homestead. The gravel-topped 4-mile Iron Hill Trail is open to both hikers and bikers, offering pretty views of the lake’s shoreline.Named for the soil’s rich red color caused by high iron-ore content, Red Top Mountain was once an important mining area. Iron pour programs are occasionally held near the Vaughn Cabin behind the park office.

Red Top is exceptional. I intended to lease a houseboat slip at the equally exceptional Park Marina, but I discovered a deal I could not refuse on Lake Lanier. I'll probably lament not "living" at Red Top for years to come. I'll come back to lodge at the yurt on occasion to get my Allatoona fix.

This is a great place during the week! It's immediate proximity to several urban areas, including my own home, make it busy on the weekends. There are a number of activities during the year that are not exceedingly crowded and it is worth looking at the Georgia State Park Website for Red Top Mountain to plan a visit. Great hiking... I've driven through Red Top Mountain Sate Park many times in my life. I'm an avid boater and there is a full service marina at the end of the drive through the park. You're pretty much guaranteed to see lots of deer as you drive, so drive carefully. They offer cabins to rent as well if you'd like a more... More

Beautiful lake. Scenery is awesome. Trading store, camp grounds. I would swim in it though. Also it's a large lake, lots of area to see. The damn museum was nice.

This is a great state park with a good diversity of things to do. There are many different trails, water access, hidden beaches, and in general lots of area to explore. Most of the hiking trails are rarely ever crowded. It is a great place to get away without going to far. Also if you have dogs, this is great... More

It's very pretty, lots of trails, wildlife, a lake, activities, you name it! This place is amazing, and accessible from I-75 with just a turn off the exit. The exit IS Red Top Mountain Road. Takes you right through everything.

Big lake, plenty of trails, plenty of picnic/grill areas, and a marina/plenty of docks to get your boats out onto the water (or rent one). If you find yourself in this town, then it's worth taking time to go and visit Red Top. In the fall/early winter, it's simply beautiful with all of the leaves changing color and falling. I... More

Beautiful, beautiful walk through the woods and down to the lake. Fall colors were stunning. Trails are very well marked. I have been twice so far and will definitely do again while I am here..

Originally reserved for back in site for RV trailer. When we arrived to look for a rv site, I became concerned with the possibility of hitting a tree or axel damage going off road/camp site pad. Too many trees around sites and narrow road meant risk of trailer damage. Road was also narrow with some sharp curves. The rv back... More

We are an older couple that visited for the first time in October, 2015. There is a nice flat trail for walking along the Etowah River with many nice views. You park by the Park Headquarters. We enjoyed a picnic lunch there. There is not a restaurant on the property at this time. Next time, we will investigate the White... More
