This sponge boat docks at the sponge docks and does a 45 minute tour on the Anclote River. The Captain gives an informative narrative on the old sponging industry in Tarpon Springs and a diver suits up in an old diving suit and goes overboard to demonstrate. At only $8 a ticket plus a 10% discount on lunch at the... More

This was an interesting boat ride that took us for a short trip on the Anclote river. The narration was great, but the old style sponge dive was not that impressive.

This 45 min boat tour is a really unique experience. The on-board captain/guide was a long-time boatman who really knows his stuff about Tarpon Springs and the old style sponge fishing using divers in old time brass helmets and linked to an on-board air pump. $8.00 per adult is a bargain for such an interesting trip. You'll see an actual... More

If you are in Tarpon Springs and would like to learn about sponge diving and the history of that trade - take the St. Nicholas Boat Tour. A very modest fee of $8.00 for a 40 minute boat ride and a 'real' sponge diver demonstration topped off by a great narrative on the history of sponge diving. Tarpon Springs is... More

This boat line provides two very reasonable boat rides off of the sponge docks. Tarpon Springs is the sponge capital of the world with a multi-million dollar annual business. St. Nicholas offers an $8 boat tour with a sponge diver in the old-fashion dive gear who shows you how it's done, while the captain provides facts and explanations about the... More

The captain of the ship is a former sponge diver who regaled us with tales from the past. Featured during this short tour is an actual dive. The Captain detailed the equipment donned by the diver and we watched the diver walk along the river bottom in search of a sponge.

Part of our day trip to Tarpon Springs included a 45 minute tour on a sponge boat operated by St. Nicholas Boat Line. We went out into one of the bayous, where an informative talk was given on the sponge fishing industry, the different types of sponges and a demonstration of the divers' equipment (weighing more than 172 pounds). A... More

We went to Tarpon Springs for the St. Nicholas Boat ride, but when we got there they said that they were not going to out that day and maybe not the next day. They said September was their slow month so they might or might not go out.
