Built in the early 1980's, after old bridge was hit by a freighter in the fog, too many people lost their lives in the accident. New bridge was first of it's kind in north American, center span with cables radiating outward. Old bridge's became north and south state fishing piers after construction was completed on new bridge, which has bumper... More

Beautiful bridge to see. Although nothing more to do than see it, it's worth the quick drive across. Check it out on the way to one of the beaches.

This bridge joining Pinellas County(St. Pete-Clearwater) to Manatee County(Bradenton) and areas south(Sarasota, Venice, Ft. Myers, Naples, etc. is a magnificent structure that never fails to amaze for it strength and beauty. It is an iconic symbol of Tampa Bay.

If you love bridges, this one is stunning! Spanning Tampa Bay with a cable stayed main span, this bridge can be see from a distance, with the carriageway arching as it rises above the water. Toll of $1.25 per car.

I have been under this bridge three times on a cruise but going over it is n a car gives it a completely different perspective. It is so big. It seemed like it took a long time to get to the top. The next time I cruise underneath the bridge I'll know what it takes to get to the top

This bridge is beautiful to view from the shore (e.g., Fort DeSoto Park) and is equally nice when seen up close as you drive.

Interesting design. But it is simply a bridge. It is not a tourist attraction. Max 10 mn to cross and that includes gawking at the osprey

I always look forward to crossing the Sunshine Skyway Bridge when our travels take us in that direction. We would not go out of the way to take visitors across the bridge, but if we were close by, we would take the time to go across or go to a place that offers a good view such as Fort De... More

We use this bridge around 6 times a year and never tire of crossing it. Its a wonderful piece of engineering and has great rest areas on both sides that are water front and great for a picnic where you can enjoy lovely views. We usually use the rest areas on our way to Tampa airport and pack a picnic,... More
