The prime time to visit Maclay Gardens State Park is in the beginning or middle of March, when the Azaleas and Camellias are in bloom. The appearance of the garden at that time must be striking. The gardens used to surround the winter home of Mr. Maclay, a New York financier, who planted flowers that bloom in the winter, when... More

We drove two hours to get here. It is a beautiful spot. There is a swimming area. There are ticks. If you live in the area and want a quiet day with a picnic and swimming this would be a great place. The entrance fee was $6.00 for the car which is very reasonable.

Only 3 stars because the flowers were not in bloom. Had read about the flowers so knew I was past the peak time but hoped they wouldn't be gone. Found out that the "season" was early this year by several weeks. Oh well.. It was still an enjoyable stroll through the different areas and I was able to see the... More

5/15/15. NO FLOWERS. Their annual flower show is 5/16/15. Wonder what they will show. 1 brick path, rest are trails thru woods. Almost all flowers are azaleas which have a short blooming period. Bah!

My Daughter and I visited during spring break, which was the end of March for us. The flowers were in full bloom. This garden was so beautiful. So many different garden areas to visit, like a reflection pool, grass paths, cobblestone paths. I thought the garden was pretty big that you could find your own quiet place and just sit... More

This was a side trip since we had a couple of hours to spare. We were actually in between seasons, so the flowers were limited. However this was also the last day that the house was open for the season, since this was a winter residence for the MacClay family. If you want to go through the house on the... More

Exceptional camelia collections and lovely garden. Garden is broken up into interesting 'rooms'. Pleasant trails surround the gardens.

We didn't have time to go to the beach today, so we decided to give Maclay Gardens a try for the kids to swim a while. Upon entering, the fee was $6. The grounds were gorgeous, overlooking the lake. There was a lot of room to picnic or have a family reunion or something like that. There is a nice... More

Definitely worth the extra money (it's not expensive) to go during the peak months of bloom from about January to the end of april

I first went there when I was about 10 years old. A beautiful old peaceful estate with lovely gardens. What's not to like?
