Staying with friends who regularly use this trail. Hired bikes from Siesta Key. Roughly 11 miles from Sarasota to Venice, where we had lunch. Trail is flat, but watch out for the climb near Venice! Good facilities, plenty of toilets on route and information signs. Great to be away from the roads and traffic.

The Legacy Trail is a paved trail along an old railroad bed that runs about 11 miles each way (you can add the Venice Waterway Trail if you want to do more). The trail is flat with one relatively steep bridge over a highway. You'll find water stations, restrooms, and rest benches along the way. The trail has some scenic... More

Trail is safe, easy, with a few gorgeous views, and always presenting lots of Florida nature. I followed the lead of a recent reviewer and rented from Popcycles. The bike was very comfortable, clean and well-equipped. The owners could not have been more helpful.

Depending on where you start you can run, walk or as most do, bike along the Intracoastal waterway through Venice. Once you leave the the water view the trail becomes less scenic and more an exercise of exercise. The bridge across Rt 41 makes for a safe crossing of a very busy road this time of the year but look... More

I wanted to try out the Legacy Trail but we didn't have bikes. We found Popcycles, a bike rental and sale shop that has "Townies" a type of bike I hadn't ridden. Great bikes for this sort of trail -- big seats and very stable smooth operation -- and they are located close to the trail in a shopping center... More

I regularly ride the Legacy Trail. It runs some 14 miles of straight, flat terrain over what used to be railroad tracks from Sarasota to Venice. I've seen box turtles along the way. It's a somewhat scenic path through some forest land of South Florida. There are usually several other bikers on the trail and an occasional jogger. I understand... More

To be able to cycle a little bit over 20 kms., from Venice to Sarasota (if you want to add a bit more mileage, start all the way from the Venice Waterway Trail, which starts in Shamrock Park, Venice), without having to worry about vehicles, on well-maintained trails, with many rest stops along the way, is the beauty of the... Very easy paved trail along an old railroad bed. One fairly steep bridge. Water stations, restrooms, and rest benches along the way. 20 miles round trip. Good beginner trail. The wind picked up so the return ride was a challenge.

This is a wonderful paved trail with rest stops & (some) scenic areas (over Dona Bay is great) that goes from Venice to Sarasota, FL. It is wonderful if you bike but if you walk it, (some of) the bikers) can be very rude & nearly run you over. Just be careful, walk (or ride) on the right side &... More

I live on Venice island and use the trail often. Easy ride, fun, good seanery. Well maintained surface and wide enough for easy passing on bike and safe for foot travel.
