This is not a very large aquarium. However, the staff is well informed and very friendly and helpful. I thoroughly enjoyed the time I spent in the aquarium. I saw a tiny sea horse and different kinds of jellyfish, more beautiful than I could imagine.

Mote Marine Laboratory and Aquarium is not to be missed! Experience the fishes that are in the acquarium, watch the shark at feeding time, pet the stingrays and sift for shark teeth. Then go across the street to see the manatees and dolphins. A great research Laboratory just a 1/2 mile from the Longboat Key Club Resort.

Lots of variety, lots of things to see. One caveat to consider is that this is spread through several areas on the island,so if you have children, it might be advisable to drive from one spot to the next if its the middle of the day as its a few hundred feet from the aquarium to the bird sanctuary or... Some awesome marine exhibits, including a 60 ft long giant squid. And they do wonderful things to preserve the wildlife of the area, like pelican rescue from fishing lines and plastic six pack rings. Great family place to visit, educational and fun.

First we went on the sea life encounter cruise. A mote biologist collecting marine life with a net. Brought on board many different types of sea life. After the cruise they are returned unharmed to Sarasota Bay. Then we wandered throughout the aquarium on our own. Had lunch at the restaurant on the premises, then walked across the street to... We have been to Mote numerous times, but revisited it with guests. It never fails to be a new experience. It was a rainy day, but a perfect venue to explore. The aquarium is mesmerizing and very educational. The manatee and seaturtle exhibit was also a plus. It is a wonderful place to take guests and especially children.

While we have been to much larger aquariums, this was a more in depth educational view at marine life in and around the Florida coast. The volunteers are friendly and very well educated. All of my questions were answered and then some! The jellyfish was our favorite part!

Really enjoyed the jellyfish, lobster, sharks and manatees! Lots of fun for the kids. We combined it with a boat tour, which was also great and educational.

Take a little time out of the sun to meet some amazing turtles and manatees! Especially at feeding time…what graceful creatures they are! The volunteers are informative and friendly…willing to share all their knowledge.
