We have been attending performances here for 20+ years and are always dazzled by the quality of the performances.... Treat yourself to one of the great highlights of the Cultural Coast: the award winning Sarasota Opera where works in the original with outstanding voices will entertain and uplift you. The lavish sets and costumes complement the singers' vocal abilities; they... More

The building is beautiful. Seats are good. Excellent facilities for cast as well as after parties. Outside portico a nice touch. Two complaints: the lobby could be bigger! The ticketing area is not only very small,, but if there are lines, the location causes lines to block the entrance.

Our first time to the opera was a home run. The entire experience was more than we expected. We attended Puccini's Tosca and it was remarkable at all levels. The theatre provides an excellent view from the balcony, sound was great, orchestra, singers, staging was fabulous. Do not let the term "opera" intimidate you from going. We grew up on... More

This 1926 building was a popular entertainment center and even hosted Cecil B. DeMille's "Greatest Show on Earth" which was filmed in Sarasota. Now it is the home of some of the greatest operas produced! The charming design and helpful staff makes this venue a popular experience. The orchestra was outstanding & the acoustics superb. There is not a bad... More

The Sarasota opera had a season that puts it in the front rank of American Opera Companies. Everything from the singers who were well chosen to the sets and the orchestra was great. After each performance I left the theater totally enthused.

Last evening we attended the opera - Tosca! What a remarkable cast! The 2015 winter festival at the W. Schmidt Opera Theatre was the venue for Tosca. We were fortunate purchasing seats at the box office the week before. Kara Shay Thomson was excellent as Tosca.! Great performances, wonderful orchestra, a truly remarkable evening!

We had tickets for the matinee performance of the Russian opera, The Golden Cockerel, and we arrived early so we could attend the introduction presentation by one of the Sarasota Opera's experts. The introduction presentation was good and cleared up the question of what kind of an opera performance would we see at 1:30 pm on Sunday! During the first... More

This year's production of Tosca and Figaro have been world class. Although singers are not in the same league as the Met, they display youthful vigor and outstanding acting ability. The musicians and sets are superb, making these performances memorable. Yet to see this season is Cockerel and Don Carlo, but judging from the local paper's reviews they surely will... More

" Marriage of Figaro" .The seats were very comfortable. Unfortunately, our seats were in the balcony which made it hard for my husband to see. Good Performance... Went to eat at Patricks, first and walked around Sarasota, great night out. The Opera House itself is beautiful...People were very dressed up or not, and no shorts.(for the evening)
