This is a story of the little Opera House that can. The singers for La Boheme were excellent, the orchestra was good. The Opera House acoustics from the Orchestra section of the seating is also excellent. What surprised us was the extensive, elaborate and detailed sets. The second Act was a complete surprise. They recreated the Cafe Momus and the... More

We hadn't been to an Opera in Sarasota in too long a time. I found seats up in the balcony on line and at four seats for around $350 went for them. Well Sarasota is a rich city, the demographic has money and wants culture, so don't be surprised if the seats available are off from the Center. I don't... More

We went to opening night of La Boheme as not very experienced opera goers , and as part of our ticket we received a pre performance run through of the play, charachters and.some music, which we found to be excellent and helped us appreciate the Italian sung performance more. There was also a subtitled translation projected above the stage which also... More

This is the place that sold me on Sarasota 15 years ago. While visiting in 2000 I walked up to the box office and just purchased a ticket. I saw a production that would rival most big cities. 15 years later, there has been no diminishment of its high quality whatsoever. I just saw the 2015 production of La Boheme,... More

The Historic Sarasota Opera House was originally a theater that was converted for opera in the 1980's. In 2008, the venue had an expansive renovation - restoring the fine decorative details back to their original glory. This is a great place to experience opera, as well as see the 'HD at the Opera House' films shown during the off-season.

Sarasota is fortunate to field a world class Opera and the children's program is exceptional! Anything I've been fortunate enough to see has been equal to the great opera houses in the world.

I've attended operas at the Met in NY, and a couple of venues in Italy. The Sarasota Opera productions, while not quite at that level, are really excellent. The quality of the performers is really excellent, and the sets are beaufiful Tickets are not inexpensive, but generally affordable & worth it.

The Sarasota Opera House is one beautiful space for watching and listening to top flight operas. Each March, we are never disappointed in the quality of the operas, the scenery, and the comfort of the house. There are no bad seats and the acoustics are second to none. Also, there is a wonderful selection of operas and the only difficulty... More

The Sarasota Opera House is an old, wonderfully restored theatre. The seating is comfortable and there are several balcony boxes,. The decor is beautiful, even to the ceiling. The best parking (if you park your own car) is a multi-level garage around back of the theatre. Each season features classical operas, often organized around a theme or a particular composer....
