Plant Lovers Alert. The Wednesday morning tour of the Botanical Gardens are well worth the $5 fee ($1 off coupon in the Sunny Day Guide). The guides - a former head gardener and the current head gardener were entertaining and of course knowledgeable. The gardens are beautiful, well manicured and all the plants are marked and identified. Bring your camera.... More

For those who want to enjoy a calm and pleasant hour exploring the flora of Sanibel Island, Sanibel Moorings is the only registered botanical gardens on the island. Soon to be retired, Anita, and her capable successor, Robin will give you an enlightening experience while enjoying the tropical scenery.

This covers 6 acres near and around the Sanibel Moorings housing or rentals...I don't know which. They were started decades ago by a knowledgeable person and cared for by others who did a good job of maintaining and acquiring a lot of our common and interesting Florida plants, trees, flowers, a turtle and butterflies. Many butterfly nectar plants and caterpillar... More

This is an area around many condo's with labeled plantings. It was uncomfortable walking next to a private lanai to see plantings. You receive a numbered sheet to follow. The staff was nice at the welcome center. Allow about 1 hr. or less.

Easy walk through the botanical gardens which spread all through this beautiful property. Gorgeous plants were well marked and easy to locate using the map we were given for our self-guided tour and rain didn't stop us from seeing a butterfly or two. Free beauty!

A blooming riot of color. A great place to go for photos and landscapes. This place is beautiful with its swaths of colorful blooms. The weather can be a problem so cooler times are better but if you go you will not be disappointed with the fragrance, the visual and the relaxation offered in a beautiful botanical garden

This was my second time to walk through the gardens with Anita ( the butterfly lady). It was a great two hours. Slow paced and full of gardening/wildlife information. I look forward to next years visit.

Excellent information about the plants that grow in the Sanibel zone -- very different from those I can grow outside in zone 7!! Anita pointed out that many of the plants we were seeing are houseplants in my part of the country - Long Island. We also enjoyed the orchids in the trees and the butterflies -- her personal favorites!... More

We've visited twice now and will return - first time we took the guided tour; second time, we used the printed map but also met up with the guide (who remembered us !) and found out more about the garden. She is very knowledgeable, very pleasant, and very obviously loves everything horticultural. Well-kept grounds, clear labels on the plants, and... More

My life loves to garden and being from a different zone the flowers, plants and trees were very new to us. The gardens have been 40 years in the making with different head gardners having different likes, but respecting the work of the past. The tour will help orient you, however you can spend hours stuffing your brain and senses... More
