The gardens are beautiful. There is a nice variety of tropical flowers, trees and plants. It is nice to walk around and see the different little gardens around the buildings. The beach is right there and the sand is really nice. On the other side, across the road, there are more plantings along the canal.

This was my second visit and I was again amazed at the diversity of plants in this collection. There were fruiting and flowering tropica'ls and plans for more. We learned that Sanibel has its own special native plant Jacquinia keyensis or the "Joewood" shrub. Knowledgeable guide and well worth the time.

Thank you lkwarton for the great review. I am happy to hear you enjoyed the tour and that you learned something new. You are correct about the Joewood, it is listed as a threatened species and was designated the official plant of the city of Sanibel in 1989. I hope to see you again soon in the gardens. More

I love gardening and was so excited when I found this tour was available. I love learning about plants and trees. Robin was an excellent tour guide whose enthusiasm for and pride in her work was evident throughout ghost her tour. She is very knowledgeable about the native and non-native plants, trees and flowers in this very interesting garden. While... More

Thanks to Trip Advisor for this one, otherwise we never would have found it! We are staying on Sanibel and cycled to the resort where the gardens are. What a lot of foresight went into pairing of the resort with gardens. Can't say enough!

We had a cool overcast day so we decided to go to the Botanical Gardens. We could not join a tour so we did the self guided tour. The plants were well marked but you miss something not going on a tour. There were a great deal of plants and some were beautiful but many were not in bloom yet.

We were very pleased with the tour. Our guide did a wonderful job describing/identifying the trees and plants on the grounds and their various common names and what they would look like in various seasons and how large they would grow or spread. She was very personable as well. One of my favorite tours.

"Garden in a City" is the motto of the Chicago. What separates Sanibel Moorings form all the rest is that walking the grounds is like walking in a garden. Each unit is surrounded by large, colorful, tropical plants. There are no manicured lawns, rather environmentally proper and esthetically pleasing plants and flowers. Take the weekly morning tour and you'll learn... More
