Botanical Gardens at Sanibel Moorings

A very nice stroll throught the gardens, but I think we were there too late in the season. Most of the blooms were already gone. Would be beautiful at the right time of year.

This was just the landscaping around a resort, with labels for some of the plants. If you go to the office, they will charge you $5 and give you a map.

We were surprised to find that this is actually a private condo development. Many of the plantings are very close to personal patios, decks, and such. Nonetheless, I found this garden delightful. We missed the guided tour, but when we paid the $5 parking fee, we received a map and guide to the plantings, as well as a path to... More

Hibiscus by the scores, ditto mahogany trees, orchids and other epiphytes, dozens of different palm varieties, star fruit, mango trees, birds of paradise, bananas, and countless butterfly host plants -- until you've walked the gardens with head gardener Anita and taken the self-guided tour, you will not believe the bio-diversity in this one condo-community garden. Birds are attracted as well,... More

WE did not arrive in time for the guided tour, but wandering about on our own, we found the grounds to be lovely and informative. We enjoyed learning the names of some of the very different trees and flowers that we were seeing throughout the island.

The gardens include beautiful native flowers and trees, and the guide is very knowledgeable. She takes small groups and so can give her attention to questions.

Lots of interesting exotics all around the property, many of them labelled. The many hibiscus plants seem out of place, though.

Anita gave us a very informative tour of the botanical gardens at Sanibel Moorings. She is the master gardener who cultivates this beautiful landscape. I learned so much about what grows in this tropical climate. I would recommend this tour for adults.
