This park has a lot to commend it. Great beaches, great location, very interesting history, and a lot of effort put into maintaining and interpreting its resources. We particularly enjoyed walking around on the fort built during the Spanish-American war era, and the nearby museum which had very impressive exhibits for County park.

The views were amazing. Great trails, picnic areas, cute beach and lots of differnt types of birds. The overlook was the best spot to view the breath taking sunset. Also all the people i came across were very friendly.

The Fort is interesting but the grounds overshadow it. They are spectacular. We decided to drive up from Sarasota for the day and take a picnic lunch. There are several beach locations and picnic areas all over the park. The entire area is very clean and well maintained. They have bike rentals in a few areas and trails throughout. We... More

Fort DeSoto Park or "Mullet Key" as it has been known by us Old time Pinellas County residents is an outstanding natural park location. Every time I go there by vehicle or boat I thank the forefathers for having the insight to keep this park in the natural florida state (minmal buildings and pavement). I can't say enough about the... Having been there a number of times, we were happy to book a pavilion for our family party. The beach is stellar. Lots of birds and a large, clean beach. Facilities and barbecues. Sort of the opposite of any town beach since there are no crowds ever.

Fort Desoto State Park is a beautiful place to stay or to visit for the day. There is kayaking, fishing, wonderful walking paths and beautiful beaches. We have personally only gone for day trips and spent the day at the North end of the beach. There is wonderful shelling at the beach but most of all it is simply beautiful... More

My friends and I spent a day at this wonderful park in mid-March 2015. There is a fee of fives dollars parking included. After we arrived, we biked for a while then we came back to the beach and spent the afternoon in the turquoise water, watching seabirds and enjoying an uncrowded beach. There is a fishing pier. The area... More

there was a lovely beach - but not as many nature trails as I would have expected through the park. We did manage to find a couple - but there isn't a lot of mapping for this sort of thing and seemed much more focused on renting cycles and kayaks. If you had a bicycle it would be perfect.

Went because old farts like old forts, I love history and this place has it. We took remis Segway trip here and stayed for sunset. Seems whenever we go to the beach it is all developed, not this place. All natural coastline , lots of picnic areas and foot and bike trails, this place is gorgeous . Waters warm, beaches... More

We made the mistake of driving from Orlando to St. Pete's Beach this past week. We ran into crazy Tampa traffic due to construction on the way there and once we got there- couldn't find a parking spot if our lives depended on it. We were near tears when I saw the sign for Fort De Soto on our way... More
