Ft. DeSoto is at the southern end of Pinellas County - off the Pinellas Bayway. If you have the time and inclination try to get one of their camping spots ( you have to reserve ). You are on the beach, yet in the woods. Even if you are not camping the beach is wonderful - even for canoeing and... More

Go to the North beach and park in lot 1-4. It's a beautiful beach. It is more crowded on the weekends. In Lot #4 there are bathrooms and a snack bar. There is also a bird sanctuary at the end of the beach (there was a volunteer there explaining all the different birds that could be seen). Pack a lunch... More

Quite, remote, Bald Eagles, Dolphin, Manatee, CANNONS! Not a lot of amenities, bring water and snacks. Lots of places to cook out. I won't tell you my favorite spots because,.... well,, you know. However, I have several and they are all over the island. Bring a snorkel and mask the water is clear until summer really hits.

Lots and lots of migrating birds that can be found in wooded areas. Shorebirds can be found year round. Can be crowded.

If I dropped you in a kayak in the middle of the park, you would not know that you were not in a lovely spot in the Keys. There are a variety of activities here from boating and fishing to folks in their ultra lights enjoying the surroundings. I do not go in my boat anymore, I take a kayak... More

This is one of the best beaches in Fl and even though they have added a 5.00 fee on entering the park it is way worth it. The fort boat rides to Egmont key fishing on the pier or that long bicycle path with a breath taking view

Loved that it is quiet and private. Its left in its natural state which made it really exciting for my kids to explore!

Within Fort De Soto Park, there is a Kayak place....excellent place to take a kayak out! We enjoying searching for sea creatures and watching the dolphins close up! A highlight of our vacation!

Having been to this park in the past, we were excited to return. Unfortunately, we were disappointed to find out that almost everything in the park was closed, due to an earlier storm with high winds which made beach conditions very rough. No worries, we had planned to rent a kayak and tour the backwater (considerably less windy) to see... More
