Shell Key is absolutely beautiful with an abundance of seashells, pristine beaches, sea life and sun. The boat crew was friendly, helpful and provided bags for seashells. The VERY short boat ride was over-priced and hinged on 'tourist trap' status. There are many other places to enjoy the Gulf Coast Beaches at a fraction of the cost.

We are Central Florida residents, always looking for the next weekend adventure. In this case, a 2 hour drive down to St. Petersburg to Shell Key in Pass a Grille will be something we will do again for sure! We spent approx. $55 for the 2 of us to be taken by the pontoon boat to Shell Key. There are... More

Had a great time shelling with my family. Got to see dolphins and found some sand dollars. The captain of the shuttle was very friendly and helpful.

Enjoyed Shell Island, and the shuttle was quick and efficient. The island was beautiful, and you could see to the bottom of the gulf, easy picking for shell finding! Be sure to bring drinks and snacks. The only down side I could find was the steep cost per person for a shuttle that takes less than ten minutes. Great shells,... More

Our kids loved this part if our trip. More shells then you can imagine. Remember to bring plenty to drink and eat. I also recommend bringing wipes to clean hands.

Best to go as early in the morning as possible. We went at noon and it was unbearably hot by then. The driver did stop when we spotted dolphins and we were able to see many dolphins including a couple of babies. They do need a better system for giving out umbrellas and equipment. As we were getting off the... More

This is the activity to do if you enjoy shelling! My entire family loved combing the beach and diving for shells. We saw small sharks along the beach as well. Plan to stay for a few hours. The shuttle returns in 2 hour intervals. Make sure to bring all your own food and drinks. The is nothing on the island... More

We love going to Shell Island via the Shell Key Shuttle. We usually take a day trip away from the mouse trap in Orlando to come here. Each time we see something different. We have seen dolphins and manatees on the island or one the way to the island. Price includes an umbrella and other supplies (snorkel gear) if needed.... More

Quick boat ride and tons of shells, including more than 10 sand dollars!! We also saw a few rays. Make sure you pack sunscreen, food and drinks, as there is nothing out there, which is part of what makes it great!

This island was just like the beach at our hotel (Sunset Vista Suites - Treasure Island). The same water, waves, shells and fish. We were expecting to see fish, stingrays and dolphins. We were there from 10-2 and explored all over the island and did not see any sea life. The shells are in the water and can be found... More

We are sorry you did not see any wildlife during your trip. We have been seeing dolphins, manta rays and manatees on a regular basis. The visibility is usually better on Shell Key than Treasure Island, unless there has been a west wind blowing that day or the day before. When that happens the visibility is not as good. If... More
