This is a small, out of the way museum in the historic district of Saint Augustine. The tour guide was very good and knew her subject. There were a lot of medical instruments from the time period and a lot of information about how the Spanish practiced medicine at the time. It seems that the Spaniards were way ahead of... More

After seven surgeries in the past decade, I came away with a new appreciation for anesthesia—particularly Irish anesthesia☺ I had to constantly remind myself that medical treatment rendered centuries ago here did not hold the same level Spaniards had in Europe. This is a restoration of a military hospital. Think M*A*S*H, harsh triage conditions where only those likely to survive... More

I went to this museum with a friend of mine that is a doctor and I think he enjoyed himself - although I was kind of grossed out at times. It had some information, but not enough for the price of the tickets. We were only there for maybe 30 minutes - so that should tell you something.

This is why I love to go to small, out of the way museums. And, as luck would have it, we were greeted by and our guide was Megan. She had been our guide on our Ghost and Graveyard tour. Just excellent, she knows her stuff. There were many medical instruments from the time period and information that made the... More

Your concept excellent and data presented great but the theatricality of the presentation left me cold. I think your average 12 year old would have adored that aspect of it though. The information presented about the Spanish medical practices, their contributions to improving medical care, use of herbs, etc. is outstanding! Those facts are great (and could be improved a... Not for the faint of heart, as they go into historical detail about exactly HOW soldiers of the day were treated for various wounds and ailments of the time, but this was a break from the heat and a great chance to learn something really interesting about life "back in the day" in a real medical facility. Very upbeat staff,... More

Our docent was wonderfully informative, humorously sarcastic and a gem to listen to. Medical practices were explained in a way that allowed you to imagine what it was like so many years ago. I especially enjoyed the herbal remedy presentation. Will do again!

This was a very interesting attraction on the history of medicine. As with most of the attractions in St. Augustine the location is not very big and the tours is short. The tour guide was GREAT.She was very knowledeable and covered a ton of information in that short time frame. I would not suggest this if your have kids under... More

There was a field trip for elementary kids, so we were asked to wait. Guide explained in detail. Though the place is small, the history was very interesting.
