You are told of the way medical treatments were performed from surgery to amputations to eye surgery. You also learn of the medications and herbs that were used. A great tour in the "Old Town" district.

I visited this museum with my sister. She is a nurse and I am a historian who focuses on 19th century medicine. We both LOVED this museum. The tour guide was wonderful and did a great presentation of historic medical procedures. The display cases were filled with authentic medical tools from the past, some of which are a bit scary.... Our guide was both informative and entertaining in his presentations on early Spanish colonial medical procedures and herbs. Authentic costumes and the visual aids of bone saws, trepanning drill bits and tooth extractors added to the presentation.

Located on the oldest street in town, the building does not seem to be terribly interesting, but if you have an enquiring mind and an interest in history you should definitely go here. The artifacts alone are amazing, but what really makes this museum special is the presentation by the docents working there. You spend a good deal of time... More

As a nurse, i thought this was a particularly awesome stop. great history lesson on medical techniques of those days!! Great visuals with actual medical tools used. Learned a lot about apothecaries and their plant discoveries which led to modern medications!

This place was nice, and of course, super old. Everyone who worked there were nice and knowledgeable about history, which I really needed. It is a place where you get to appreciate today's medicine and technology. The little story in the back sells handmade stuff from the locals, and they are all beautiful!

I very much wanted to do this while my husband was on the fence. We both ended up enjoying it a lot! Our tour guide was very informative explaining the "primitive" surgical tools and then how herbs, flowers, etc. were used to treat patients and even how some of those are still used today, in another form for example willow... The guide was fabulous. She really got into the tour visually demonstrating how they amputated a hand (no blood!). Her sense of humor really made the tour and I learned a lot about herbs and the role of an apothecary.

You can feel the spirits in here. I have been there during the day and also during one of the ghost tours. I have been overcome with sadness both times...glad I went though, It's important to remember all the lives lost during war, and the brave souls, that went before us.
