The Church is of the Spanish influence. Very old. It is an active church, has a wee store in the outer part. After mass, you are free to investigate the decorations.

The "Basilica Cathedral" bears the titles of the oldest and first parish in the whole United States! Amazing! Its construction started in 1565 and has passed through quite many reconstructions and renovations throughout the years. Can you imagine that even famous pirates, including Sir Francis Drake, have totally destroyed it once? Lovely legends about a beautiful church at the heart... More

The building was amazing both inside and outside. They were having free live music and concerts inside while we were there.

Always a cool , calm place to worship. I used to sing in the choir-- and it was always a pleasure to attend service there. The little gift shop at the entrance is precious. The organ has its own history---! Beautiful!

The Cathedral is situated within easy walking distance of many of Saint Augustine's main attractions. The exterior is lovely, and appears to have been recently renovated. It appears that there was still some sort of construction going on, so several portions of the Cathedral were off limits. However, its main interior was still open for viewing as well as worship.... It's like a step back in time when you enter this beautiful church. Magnificent Tiffany windows, colorful murals, red timbered ceilings create an impressive image of sacred space. The first Catholic mass in America was held in St. Augustine, another of historical beauty in this wonderful city.

This was a real treat. The wooden beams and decorative tile were worth seeing if nothing else. Since it was Christmas, they had a beautiful nativity scene in the front of the church. It was in very good shape for being so old. You could tell the architecture was spanish. One of the most beautiful churches I have ever seen.
