Something I saw but never noticed along St. George St. that was the highlight of us playing tourist one weekend. The people in the costumes was wonderful, along with talking with them and their knowledge. More

Not sure what this Skye person is on, but the Colonial Spanish Quarter Living History Museum shut its doors to the public on October 1, 2011. Yes, uneducated scabs were hired to come in and pretend to do what the former historians were professionals at, but as far as the museum actually being open to the public to interpret history,... One of the few museums in the country were history comes alive. Watch a blacksmith at work, check out how shoes were made, smell the aroma of food cooking over an "orno" outdoor oven, hear the firing of black powder rifles, and then stop by and have a glass of the best sangria in town in the tavern with the... We went here with very high expectations but came away very disappointed. It all started when we first came into the village and was met by the lady who took our tickets. After a little small talk about where we were from, she told us that we had come at the right time because all the full time employees/artisans were... More

We got the package deal that includes the fort and another museum and the tickets are valid for a week (saves on lines too). People are very informative. Saw blacksmith and leatherworkers at work. Wear closed shoes. Area is sandy and ashy. More

We took the 1pm Mesa House tour, which was the only thing somewhat interesting. There was no Señora Gallegos in the Gallegos house kitchen cooking and sharing her recipes (she must have gone out to lunch). The leatherworker was not informative at all; he just kept on lacing a tiny bag he apparently had made. Same story with the blacksmith,... More

I went to the Spanish Quarter Museum as a 4th grader and loved it. As an adult, I still enjoyed it. The actors in the village shared lots of interesting facts with us. The carpenter was absolutely the best. We were able to learn so much from him. There wasn't a candle maker or scribe the afternoon we went. But... More

What we saw was nice and informative. The only problem was when we entered the lady told us everything was going on except candle making. When we got in, the only thing actually going on was the carpenter. I quess the black smith, sail maker, and the rest took a break all at the same time. Yeah right. More

St. Augustine is THE OLDEST city in our nation (1560's) -- and this museum takes one back to the 1740's Spanish city. We spent several hours here talking to the blacksmith, the carpenter, and the local scribe! Don't miss the scheduled tour of the Mesa-Sanchez house, included in the admission price. Ask for the AAA discount! And stop by the... More

The scenery was beautiful but the demonstrations left something to be desired. We were there at the end of the day and only the church scribe and leather worker even bothered to give us a demonstration. The woman working in the colonial home was filling in as the hostess and was so extremely rude to my husband and I. If... More
