There were people in period dress the day we visited. Not sure is there was a reenactment the last weekend in June. Watching everyone in period dress made me appreciate our lightweight clothing of today. We watched as a flag pole was made in one of the outbuildings. Seeing all the different sized cannons was very interesting.

Take a little boat ride and escape into the past. All for free! Located at the south end of St Augustine is this hidden little treasure. Kids enjoy the boat ride and climbing to the top of the monument.

Excellent to visit - the staff dress in period clothing and do a cannon demonstration in Spanish. A must see.

Make sure that you arrive before the half hour as that is when the boat departs. The first trip is at 9:30 A.M. and the last one departs at 4:30 P.M. The National Park Service guide gave a good description of the history of the fort and the reason for its existence in this relatively isolated location. After the boat... More

Easy short drive from downtown, crossing el Puente de los Leones, into Anastasia Island, drive on US 1A until you find the national monument... Reach it by free short boat ride courtesy of the US NPS. You will need only about one hour in the park to experience this historical place. Matanzas means "killing", it refers to the attack of... Very much enjoyed seeing this old fort that withstood many advances in an attempt to defeat the inhabitants. The cannon firing reenactment was interesting and educational. The volunteers that performed the reenactment knew their history, explained it well and were very willing to pose for pictures in their period dress. The self guided tour offered very good explanations for what... More

I took my 7 year old twins here in July and it was very neat to see. We went around 10:00 AM and it was very hot. We lasted about 45 minutes and had to look for AC. It is very historic and better for older children and adults.
