The musket firing display at fort grounds was very informative. We enjoyed walking thru the area.It was a free day so you had to dodge children.

The tour is free and takes about an hour. You get to the fort via a large pontoon boat and a ranger gives you a tour. The fort is very small, but very interesting and was a fantastic trip. This was built in 1740 to 1742 by the Spanish and protected St. Augustine as it is situated on the inter-coastal... More

The kids enjoyed taking the boat over to the island, and we were pleasantly surprised that we enjoyed touring the fort. I wouldn't travel very far to get here, but if you are in the area, it's a neat little experience.

A little away from the historic area this National Monument is in a lovely setting. You take a boat to the fort and have opportunities to listen to interesting Park Rangers talk about its history and the history of the times when it was built.. The area itself is worth a visit because it is peaceful and quite pretty. This... More

This free attraction is on the smaller side, but worth a stop if you're in the immediate vicinity. You have to obtain a free pass at the main office for the boat ride that runs every half-hour, which will take you to the tiny fort across the water and will wait for the group while they tour the building. You... More

Hard duty for its day. Thoroughly enjoyed the boat ride over, the facility and imagining sighting enemy ships sailing up the river..

We arrived just in time to get the boat across the river to the fort. The guide told us a bit about it, and we checked out the small exhibition of what it would have been like for the people manning the post and climbed the ladder to admire the view from the roof. The fact that it was all... More

Nice half day excursion. Stayed at Palm Coast and was looking for something to do. This was very interesting and included a boat ride over to the the Fort. Nice grounds and nature trail also. Be sure to get your tickets for the ferry ride as soon as you get there since there are only 36 people who can board... More

This was a fun little excursion. There's a short ferry ride to the island and friendly ranger named Matt did our tour. There are also nature trails and it's all free!

We were driving to Georgia and, as I had read about this place, decided to stop...NO REGRETS! The visitor center is well run and the short video is informative. The three staff members we had contact with were very very easy to listen to. The fort itself is very very small but remarkably well preserved. Fort Matanzas is well worth... More
