After viewing Castillo de San Pablo in St Augustine in the morning then I would recommend you take the 10 mile trip down A1A to the Fort Matanzas National Monument. This fort is part and parcel of the Spanish control of this area for 200 years. There is no charge for the visit or the short ferry ride to the... More

I would recommend this to my friends. The fort was ranked ninth at the time of this writing. Personally I would put it a little higher as St. Augustine's place in history was of a military place. Good tour.

We really enjoyed our stop at this park. The movie was interesting, the ferry ride was nice with a short visit from some dolphins, and the fort itself was very fun. My daughter and I enjoyed climbing the ladder to see the view from the highest level. Afterwards, we enjoyed playing in the live oaks in the picnic area as... More

Definitely visit this place! it's free and you take a boat to a small old Spanish outpost south of saint augustine. While we waited for the boat ride to the fort, we had an excellent, well-informed guide tell us about the local wildlife. Nice excursion from Saint Augustine.

Have been to fort before but never got to see the canon being fired. VERY IMPRESSIVE. The formality and historical accuracy of the performance was wonderful. It was quite windy and cold the day we were there so couldn't linger up top as much as I would have liked. The displays inside of the fort are very informative. A great... More

When you have visitors and want to show them around st.naugustine this is a great place to go. It is ideal for both adults and children. You can take a short walk around a well planned trail with signs posted indicating the type of vegetation and animal life in this area. You now take a short ten minute boat ride... More

My family loves history. We had been to the fort in the center of old St. Augustine and saw that Matanzas wasn't far from where we were. Worth the trip. The little boat ride across the river was neat, what a current. Paddle boarders were out there and could just ride in. The Fort, and it's story was very interesting.... More

After short boat ride, we were able to visit the Spanish watchtower with soldiers and officer quarters. Different from any other historic site we've ever visited. Go on the first tour which typically has fewer visitors.

Start with a film overview of the Fort, then take a ferry ride across to the fort. Well maintained grounds and facilities. Very enjoyable experience.
