The tours are on the half hour and the 9:30 tour is the least crowded. Allow approximately an hour for this. This is free and includes a free, short boat ride to the fort with a park ranger. He stays with you on the island, detailing what the soldiers daily routine was like, what the conditions were back in the... More

I love forts and this one is one of my favorites. The free ferry ride over to the island was a big hit with our kids too! What a lovely spot!

Our visit was very education and felt like a time machine going back to the early days of pirates and battles for the land! The cannon demonstration was neat too

Great introduction to the history of St. Augustine. The free ferry takes visitors to the restored fort. Very informative video in visitor's center on the history of the European settlement of the area dating back to 1535. Once at the fort visitors can climb to the top of the fort for a wonderful view of the river inlet.

A short ride south of St Augustine. Very clean National Park. Rangers were very nice and informative. Short boat ride to the Fort. Fun to see the cannons, and the indoors was set up just as the soldiers lived at that time. Also you can climb the ladder to the lookout...awesome! you can often see the dolphins skimming across the... More

Our 9 year old boy enjoyed visiting. There is a short movie before riding the boat to the fort. Great bathrooms in parking lot and plenty of seats. The fort itself is authentic.

After many trips to St Augustine we finally decided to venture down to Ft Matanzas. It was definitely worth the drive. The tour guides (Park Rangers) did an outstanding job explaining the history of the fort.

Just south of St. Augustine, this National Monument has a free very short ferry ride across the intercoastal to the monument. It is a good little history lesson and especially good for little ones who may tire of the longer tours. There are also trails to hike and sandy beachheads. Beware the snakes.

Just standing on the top of the fort you can almost hear the cannons. To think this was the spot of so many historical battles is amazing.

The lady was awesome. I can't remb her name but she is local to Saint Augustine 21? & hippy like. I had 6 kids and she entertained them and us 2 adults for a long time. She was nice. The place is interactive. The kids enjoyed this more then anything.
