I have visited this park several times. My partner and I originally stumbled upon it and were pleasantly surprised by the facility and what we learned about the fort and surrounding area. There is a free boat ride to Rattlesnake Island, where you will tour the fort with a guide. Next to the welcome center there is a nature trail... More

It was a really interesting visit to the Fort. Boat ride was fun too and the length of time at the fort was just right. Helpful and informative guides really added to the visit. Beautiful views from the Fort. Took loads of photos.

After convincing our 4 year old grand daughter there were no pirates at the fort, we hopped aboard the spacious pontoon boat and enjoyed! The Ranger that led our tour was a wealth of information. Sorry I can not remember his name. The condition of the fort is outstanding. Takes about 1.5 hours if you absorb the history!

Not much to see but the view from the fort. Has some history about the Spanish but I learned more reading headstones in the cemetary up the street

This is a must see even if you are not interested in the fort. The ferry ride over to the fort is very relaxing. You also get to see the barrier island and the river system. The park rangers are very knowledgeable and answer all questions. They give a great tour! A perk of this attraction is that it is... More

I went here it was about 40 minutes out of my way but totally worth the drive. There was other places I wanted to see but the ride to the little island was awesome. The boat trip is free and the parks people are really awesome and give a great tour.

Not impressed with the fort. A boat ride on the river is the high point. If you haven't seen Forida's barrier island and river systems then this might be for you.

A little slice of the tedium of Spanish garrison duty. The NPS folks do a good job,in the transporting and guiding jobs. a scenic and kinda romantic spot The day we were there was a lucky day,in that some re-enactors depicting the brief British occupation, were demonstrating and firing cannon. TRULY a golden chance, rare and super nice. Check websites for this... More

I am a travel writer who covers National Parks (npplan.com) and I visited Fort Matanzas in July 2013. Fort Matanzas National Monument is located just south of St. Augustine, Florida, and makes up one of two Spanish era forts in the city, the other being Castillo de San Marcos in the heart of St. Augustine. The fort was constructed by... More
