If you love history, don't miss this. It is a small fort with touring in and around the grounds. Be sure you arrive well before 5 as inside tours end at that time. $7.00 per person to go in. Walking the outside perimeter is free. Great views from the top of the fort.

My husband and I were told about this fort by fellow guests where we were staying. What a great time. The Rangers were so friendly and informative. As other reviewers said...you obtain a free ticket from the office and take the ferry to the fort. The Ranger gives you a little history of the fort and when you get there,... More

We take all of our visitors here. Such a great piece of history in a beautiful location. You can climb to the top of the small fort for great views of the marsh. We love the boat ride over to the fort and the nature walk near the visitor's center.

Ferry rides require free tickets and leave every hour on the half hour. The fort is very small, but the NPS guides provided good information about the historic significance. During the ferry rides we saw a dolphin, turtles, and many birds.

You have to go here just to see the trees! Make sure to check tour times and visit early on a clear and sunny day. If weather even hints at turning bad they can cancel the ferry over to the fort. You wouldn't want to be out on a boat or at the island when a storm blew up! Rangers... More

Short ferry ride over to a small fort. Filled with history and artifacts. Tour narrated by costumed narrator. Hundreds of little fiddler crabs on the grounds.. they don't hurt you or anything... but they are interesting to see how many of them there are.... they run and hide :) - Free to visit... and tour.

Slightly off the beaten path, Ft. Matanzas offer a unique experience at no charge. Just off A1A and North of the Matanzas Inlet bridge, there is convenient free parking, a small museum that provided some background and a free boat ride to Fort Matanzas that is located on a small island. Its an easy boat ride captained by a skilled... More

One of he things our National Park Service does well is preserve and present interesting tours of historic sites. Fort Matanzas is one, great for families with the boat trip to the fort and opportunity to explore without being an all day visit. Close to the beach.

This was a wonderful historical tour and ferry boat ride. We were told the ferry leaves on the half hour, and we arrived very close! We thought we were going to have to wait another hour, but the park rangers accommodated the several extra people by running a 2nd ferry. Upon arriving at the fort, we were greeted by a... More
