My family loves history. We had been to the fort in the center of old St. Augustine and saw that Matanzas wasn't far from where we were. Worth the trip. The little boat ride across the river was neat, what a current. Paddle boarders were out there and could just ride in. The Fort, and it's story was very interesting.... More

After short boat ride, we were able to visit the Spanish watchtower with soldiers and officer quarters. Different from any other historic site we've ever visited. Go on the first tour which typically has fewer visitors.

Start with a film overview of the Fort, then take a ferry ride across to the fort. Well maintained grounds and facilities. Very enjoyable experience.

This short tour gives you a good idea of what it would feel like to man this lovely, lonely defense post for the southern approach to St. Augustine. You definitely need to be able to climb stairs to get up inside the fort, and to access the very top platform, you need to climb a ladder-type staircase up through a... More

The free boat trip to the old Fort Matanzas National Monument was pleasant. Lots of birds and a history lesson about the French, the Spanish and the early years of St.Augustine, FL. You can climb to the top of the fort through a small opening to get a great river of the river and the surrounding area.

Ft. Matanzas is located on Rattlesnake Island so the tour includes a short ferry ride to the island. The ferry only holds 35 guests so arrive early to get tickets if you want a specific time slot. The tickets are distributed 2 hours prior to departure. (So if you want the 12:30pm ferry you may want to stop and get... More

This small fort is accessible only by boat and they have a boat ride and guide. The entire trip over and back, exploring the fort and learning from the guide will take about an hour. If its a busy day you may need to wait for an hour or so for the boat ride over. They will you give a... More

This place was a real treat! We went in not knowing what to expect. The fort was a great place to visit that had so much history that I was unaware of. If you enjoy history and historic places you will want to make a stop here. They had people dressed in costumes from that era and had a few... More

The Fort has a great self guided tour plus they have guides dressed in period appropriate attire that give great history lessons about the building of the fort and actual life for the solders. We found this to be very informative and entertaining. The view from the top of the fort is breathtaking!
