I think that most of the people who dislike the museum are uninformed of its history. An old hotel converted into a museum. Interesting collection of items. I started out disappointed on the lower level, but it gets better as you go upstairs. I enjoyed most the samplers and the buttons. A bit pricey at $10 per person, but a nice visit. more

Combine a visit to this museum with Flagler College which is right across the street and you've got half a day of culture for your visit. The Lightner used to be the Alcazar Hotel (also built by Flagler) and now houses an interesting collection of science artifacts, art glass, sculpture, paintings and furnishings. If you go, be sure to catch the demonstration of all of the music machines that are in the collection. It was the best part of the museum which houses loads of other interesting pieces...honorable mention to the shrunken head which was the most peculiar object we saw.
