This trip was my second time visiting the Lightner Musem and its actully improved. The beaty of the building is really hightened at night, during the Christmas season. The Christmas lights on and around the building make it a must see during the Holiday Season. One exhibit I really enjoyed was the Toaster Collection! This was really interesting and a... more

I think that most of the people who dislike the museum are uninformed of its history. The building has two stories, one as a hotel and one as the home to Lightner's, the "collector of collections," hobby. Lightner moved his collection into the building after buying it for $250,000 (I believe) in 1948. When he died he left his collection... more

When we arrived and found out that the price of 10 dollars for admission and I would have to check my bag (which I never let out of my sight) we decided to just walk around the building and see what we could see. You can't find any coupons as hard as we tried to go inside to see the... more

An old hotel converted into a museum. Interesting collection of items. I started out disappointed on the lower level, but it gets better as you go upstairs. I enjoyed most the samplers and the buttons. A bit pricey at $10 per person, but a nice visit. more

Combine a visit to this museum with Flagler College which is right across the street and you've got half a day of culture for your visit. The Lightner used to be the Alcazar Hotel (also built by Flagler) and now houses an interesting collection of science artifacts, art glass, sculpture, paintings and furnishings. The architecture and history of the hotel... more

If you go, be sure to catch the demonstration of all of the music machines that are in the collection. It was the best part of the museum which houses loads of other interesting pieces...honorable mention to the shrunken head which was the most peculiar object we saw. The museum building is quite an exhibit all by itself too. more

As a disclaimer, we're not really into antiques... we were really hoping for more info about the old hotel itself, as the building itself is so impressive, but we were quite disappointed. What an odd collection of items to be put together in one place. Most intriguing to us were the mummy, shrunken head, lion, marbles and buttons... just to... more

We had done some research and this museum was high on our list of choices to visit during our four day vacation in St. Augustine. It did not disappoint. My husband, two college-aged boys and myself went through this huge and imposing collection of world treasures with our mouths dropped open. There is so much to see that it is... more
