A wonderful piece of history

The fort is awesome. I've come here many times and recently came with my wife and our good friends. We all love history and the rooms were so neat to go in to.

Awesome view of the bay and a wonderful piece of history to explore. Just be sure to consider the weather when you go. When you're touring the rooms, it can get really hot really quickly since there's no air conditioning (but seriously, why would there be A/C?). Then again, I went in July. It wasn't terribly hot outside though. The... More

The other reviewers say it all - this fortress is amazing. Sadly it's starting to decay and will need major money to preserve. I like visiting the fort after it closes, they light it up very well and it's a great time to get pictures. If you luck into the full moon the scene is unreal. Always lots of people... More

We are a family of 6....it was $20 for the afternoon (kids were free) so I felt it was a good bang for the buck. The kids enjoyed the shooting of a cannon. The fort itself is really neat and the people (volunteers) are excellent.

Castillo de San Marcos is a very cool old Fort of the corner of the water ready to defend the city. National Park ranger dress in old style uniforms. On the weekends they fire the canons which is cool to watch. As you walk the fort you will see different canons placed around the area. The coquina walls still have... More

We listened to a park ranger talk about the history of the fort. We enjoyed walking around to see the different exhibits. Nice views from the gun deck. Great place to take the kids and learn about history. Kids 15 and under get free admission.

This was among one of the first things we did while in Saint Augustine. I only wish it wasn't August when we came, it was extremely hot and of course the fort is not air-conditioned, Ha! Had it not been so hot, we would've been able to enjoy ourselves a little more and not had to go through the fort... More

It was raining on & off the Sunday we were here, but overall the staff did an excellent job of working around the weather to give the crowd a great experience. Brand new restrooms were a nice touch in this centuries-old fort. They had a live cannon-firing, rooms with clear explanations of former uses and the characters who occupied them.... More

We didn't pay the $10 to get inside this designated National Monument. Walking around the outside and grounds was still a nice experience. Cool to get close to a 400-year-old structure.

The Castillo de San Marcos is the oldest Spanish Fort in America. This is a self-guided site that has many educational plaques to explain the history of the fort. There are historical re-enactors present on site at various times performing cannon loading and firing. I happened to be there when there was a group of school children present, and the... More
