This is an attraction where you could spend an hour or several hours, depending on how much you want to learn about this historical site. They offer informative talks and demonstrations and throughout the site there are rooms with information posted. Definitely walk around the upper level. The views are beautiful. Since this is owned by the national park association,... More

Rated #4 of TripAdvisor things to do, this U.S. National Park should be number one. Garbed in period clothing, Park Rangers stimulate visitors with tales of yesteryear, and what life was like during Spanish & British colonization. It is also a designated National Monument. Castillo translates from Spanish as “castle”, but this is not England’s version—it’s a true fort. Castillo... More

Stay for the cannon firing with the volunteers in costume, happens severa times a day. Beautiful view of intercostal and walk through the rooms with descriptions of all the history of the fort. Your ticket is good all week so you can visit several times during the week.

Was there on a beautiful sunny day so that makes it nice to see the outdoor areas as well as the inside rooms. Take a few minutes to talk with the Rangers who are friendly and helpful. Kids can do a National Park Ranger program for a badge and a patch (patch requires a few more questions). We learned a... More

Great history of the area and early America. Brings new perspectives and an interesting point to consider, what if Spain had won?

This fort, the Castillo de San Marcos, was originally meant to protect Spanish Florida and St. Augustine from the British invasions as well as pirates. The fort itself is massive and made of the unique coquina stone - when you go, you will see how unique it is. The NPS did a great job at setting up the exhibits and... More

We were there for lunch. I had a Greek salad with a homemade olive vinaigrette. And my friends had different types of hamburgers. Everything was delicious. The service was outstanding and the food is prepared when you order it.

Signboards provided a good historical narrative of the history of the fort and St Augustine. The multimedia presentation shows how the defenders would have used their weapons to defend the fort and town.
