We have traveled here for the past two years and plan on going in Aug 2012. This is one of my favorite spots in Florida. There are so many activities to enjoy. Fishing, snorkeling, tour the forts, it's endless. I always meet the nicest people from all over. I love the Ft Pickens area and will definitely visit this spot... More

Interesting civil war fort with lots of stuff for kids to explore. There are restored cannons, many arched brick batteries etc. This would be a nice way to break up an all beach vacation and get a little exercise. You can also rent fishing equipment and fish on the pier. You could pack a picnic or buy something in their... More

First thing,There is a toll bridge going over there($1),plus an $8 entree fee for the park.Next thing is the drive out there.it's about 6 miles I think from the paybooth and you can't drive over 10 miles per hour because of these birds that nest there. That's the negatives.Once you get to the fort however,it's a very nice Civil War era... This has a great history of protecting Pensacola, and housing some famous inmates as Al Capone, and Crazy Horse. Not sure since the hurricane Ivan if the Jail part is still accessible as there was alot of damage out there. More

We camp here at least once a year. The beaches are beautiful and deserted. Camping is $20/night and includes power/water hook ups, septic dump, and shower/bathroom houses that are kept fairly clean. If you are just coming to visit the fort, I believe its $8 for a vehicle pass (good for 7 consecutive days). Besides the main fort there are... More

When you first get here I recommend going into the visitor center & requesting the Fort Pickens self guided tour brochure & then stepping across the hall to watch a short video about the Fort. After that you'll be better prepared to understand what the Fort is all about. This Fort has a lot of history attached to it including... More

A good place to kill a few hours exploring and climbing around. I really liked seeing all of the old tunnels, walls, and cannons. The view from the top is amazing! More

Any time we have visitors in town, we make the effort to go down to the fort. It's always a good time touring around a part of history. And looking for all the hidden goodies in the woods is always fun too! More
