Interesting civil war fort with lots of stuff for kids to explore. There are restored cannons, many arched brick batteries etc. This would be a nice way to break up an all beach vacation and get a little exercise. First thing,There is a toll bridge going over there($1),plus an $8 entree fee for the park.Next thing is the drive out there.it's about 6 miles I think from the paybooth and you can't drive over 10 miles per hour because of these birds that nest there.That's the negatives.Once you get to the fort however,it's a very nice Civil War era... This has a great history of protecting Pensacola, and housing some famous inmates as Al Capone, and Crazy Horse. Not sure since the hurricane Ivan if the Jail part is still accessible as there was alot of damage out there. More

We camp here at least once a year. The beaches are beautiful and deserted. Camping is $20/night and includes power/water hook ups, septic dump, and shower/bathroom houses that are kept fairly clean.
