Great place to hike and see the real Florida. Actually had a rare Florida Scrub Jay fly right down onto my hat!

joined "Ron" for the scrub jay walk. Was so hoping to see one. sad me, there are only 15 scrub jays left in this habitat despite all the hard work. We'll come again to do some kayaking on the beautiful river when the weather is cooler. Hope the scrub jay news is better upon our return.

We stayed for 4 days and the sites are small, they have drive through sites, but many are on a slope. We are tenters and we have a 9 x14 and a 10x12 screen room and we were filling our site with those two. The park is nice, with a swimming pond and a rec room/education center. The staff was... More

Oscar Scherer State Park is a beautiful park with great trails and a very nice visitor center. Next time would like to spend more time there and walk more of the nature trails.

I don't like to speak negatively of any place, however this park has no organization. My family and I visited last week with the hopes of walking some trails and viewing their lakes/wildlife. When we pulled up we mentioned we had never visited before and the woman handed us a map and went back to what she was doing. Some... More

A variety of trails for hiking, serious or fun, nice picnic areas, a swimming lake ( beware of occasional gators), Nature center and other facilities ( no concession). Great access to Legacy Trail for biking. Well know Eagles nest during season, often tours by volunteers who know a lot about the Park and it's history. Not a huge park but... More

My husband and I camped for three days and two nights in May. This was a lovely campground with secluded sites. Many hiking trails and animals to see. Within a short distance of many beaches. This is a park we will visit again in the future.

Just south of Sarasota, you will find the Otto Scherer State Park. It has a small but nicely laid out museum/ visitor center which will tell you about the local habitat and the changes over the last fifty years. It also has displays of the birds to be found in the area. We decided to take one of the shorter... More
