The Mennello is a small museum in downtown Orlando, a part of Orlando that few visitors ever see. This is a young museum that is celebrating its 15th anniversary. During my visit, it had an extensive exhibition of "Art of the American West" and the paintings of Earl Cunningham. It was a wonderful experience. It is located in a beautiful... More

This museum has a permanent exhibit of Earl Cunningham paintings, a local folk artist, in half the museum. The other half is a changing exhibit. The current one is Southwestern Allure, paintings from Santa Fe, NM in the early part of the 1900s. These are wonderful examples of SW art which we previously saw at the Boca Art Museum, but... More

There are only a few days left to see this great exhibit of Florida art and culture. The pictures and stories of Rob Sorter's Florida experiences were fascinating. Earl Cunningham's bold paintings of old Florida were amazing with the vivid colors and minute details. A lot of Florida history in those paintings. Eugene Savage's Seminole paintings were a lovely depiction... More

I went to see the display of Seminole Indian artwork and expected a collection of artwork by Seminoles, not two artists who depicted the Seminole life style. There was a very small collection of authentic Seminole clothing, jewelry, and toys, and I was very pleased to be able to meet the owner of these items, Mr. Reeves, and talk with... More

This small museum really focuses on the art of one artist, Earl Cunningham. His oil on hardboard paintings are primitive and very colorful. A documentary film plays on a small tv. Currently there is also a small exhibit from the Smithsonian of African art. The surrounding grounds has a few pieces of sculpture that appear permanent and a temporary exhibit... More

Please take head and do not visit this Museum. Recently the Central Florida Cultural Organizations were hosting a swap event among similar groups, There were six sites which allowed access through membership with one of the other groups. The Mennello was one listed on the promotion, however when we arrived we were promptly advised we could not use our other... More

The museum is in the old Phillips house. He was one of the original orange tree magnates in central Florida. The museum has a permanent collection of Cunningham, a self-taught New England artist. Exhibits of outsider art change regularly. The gift store is good.

This museum is a jewel in Orlando. A beautiful mid-century home that has been used to its best purpose. Large windows overlooking a lake give a most unique opportunity for viewing wonderful art. The Earl Cunningham collection is really something to see. The colors are just amazing.

Cunningham was from Maine. You can view his Wikipedia entry here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Earl_Cunningham I was not impressed with his art. It is definately "folk art" - It was colorful and fun, but I don't really think it deserves a museum. The other exhibit that was there when I went to the museum, art about working in the depression years, was much... More
