Nice collection and good exhibits (check to see what's on). Large enough to provide variety but small enough to take kids (without having them feel like you've dragged them all over creation). Also something you can have a great visit in 2 hours or so - not an all day affair. Staff is very nice and helpful. The Ocala Civic... More

The depth and extent of the collections were amazing! Each room was well displayed, with clear descriptions and a logical course through the museum. The setting for the building was lovely too, set back in it's own park with well planned landscaping and a very interesting sculpture in the trees.

The Appleton Museum is well worth a visit. There permanent exhibit is outstanding and they always have interesting special artists. It is the right size to enjoy in an afternoon.

The Appleton was one of the really nice surprises when we moved here. It has an impressive permanent collection and some of the exhibits have been wonderful. We have joined as senior members, just $40 a year per couple. One of the most important pieces of "art" in the museum -- the only escalator in the county -- has been... More

As a newcomer to the Ocala area, I was very pleased to visit the museum - beautifully done, very nice work and displays. Military discount towards admission, too. We went on a Saturday afternoon and enjoyed the installations - not too crowded. Very nice, but small gift shop. No cafe....that would be a nice addition.

This was a perfect stop off on our trip down to Florida from New York. The Museum is beautifully designed and landscaped inside and out. Two floors of exhibits with light, airy rooms. Our favorite, although we didn't expect it to be, was the collection of netsuke. There was clarifying information about each piece that was very interesting. We enjoyed... More

We hadn't planned on stopping because we were focused on enjoying all the springs. So it was an on the fly. I was completely impressed by the wonderful collections of African and Asian art and artifacts. We were lucky to see the some the the archeological finds from Ponce DeLeon's missions that were located in north central Florida and the... More

It is not everywhere that you can see German art, but this museum has a plentiful number of paintings by German artists (as well as many from France, England, etc.) There were also some excellent temporary exhibitions on display. The entrance fee is reasonable. NARM members get in free!

This was a very surprising Museum with good permanent collections of art, ceramics and furniture plus a nice auditorium. There was an emphasis on equestrian paintings - appropriate for the self-styled 'horse capital of the world' - but a wide range besides. Temporary exhibitions tend to showcase modern art. Small museums are struggling at this time, so do hope its... More
