Hubby and I chose to do the wildlife drive. You can also walk and or bike. We saw a wonderful vareity of birds and also the gators. Being a birder, I was extremely happy with the species of birds and that most were pretty use to people. I took lots of photos and we spent a good part of the... More

This is seriously a good place for bird watching. I've never seen so many different kinds of birds in one place, which was actually a relatively small area. The wetlands were easy to find, free, and offered the opportunity to see wild birds not in an aviary. Good for getting kids interested in bird watching since it's easy to see... More

We visit this location each year before our visit to Blue Cypress Lake. It is another interesting Florida birding location as the birds reside in ponds behind a sewage treatment plant. There are some interesting settings and usually, you will be able to photograph a variety of birds. Some years there have been a lot of different species and this... More

Great place to drive and observe birds, alligators, and other wildlife from your car. Very comfortable roads to walk on, too. Don't get too close to the alligators sunning themselves in the grass beside the road. Porta-potties available.

Many of the birds we found here are skittish, so we had to use our rental car as a blind. But, that worked well for us and we were impressed by the wide range of species we saw in the course of only 2 hours, mid afternoon.

If you live anywhere along the Space Coast of Florida, near I-95 (2.5 miles from Exit 191) or Wickham Road, take the time to visit this 200-acre tranquil conservation area not far from the bustle of heavy traffic. After a scheduled morning tour of Viera Hospital and lunch at the cafe, we chose the opportunity to visit this nearby secluded... More

Also known as Viera Wetlands, this is generally a very good location for birding and bird photography. You can drive or walk the dirt roads that surround the various ponds and wet areas and if you walk remember to take some water. If it's rained you might find the roads closed to prevent damage but you can always walk.

There's always a different highlight at this area. Last year we saw dozens of white pelicans probably resting during migration. This visit we saw numerous alligators, most of them in the water. Many were small so they were probably young. We also saw cormorant babies being fed by a parent in their palm tree nest. It was an interesting day,... More

We decided to visit this before we went to a spring training baseball game since it was so close to our hotel. The first day it was overcast and only had a little bit of time. So we went back the next day when it was sunny and were able to get some really cool pictures of birds and alligators.... More
